Wohoo! Sold some sites for $200.00 but need help with backing up Wordpress For New Owner

Hi guys, I made some more money $200 infact, just keeps getting better and better

Anyway I sold a few of my word press blogs recently and it's nearly time to start the transfer process.

However before we do I want to make sure I have everything right for the new owner and that I have backed up the site correctly.

So far I have:

  • The XML File I got from wordpress admin panel
  • A file I downloaded using a backup wordpress plugin (SQL file)
  • A SQL file I downloaded from my hosting cpanel just in case
The last 2 files could be the same thing....not sure.

Is this all the new owner needs?

Thanks

Yes last two files are the same. But it's better to make full cpanel backup and just give that file to new owner.

      Thanks

BUT is what I have enough?

If I do the full backup then wont the owner have ALL the files on my server I dont want that?

Ive tried following that but once the compression starts It doesnt finish compressing all the files and get the an error saying:

      "Output Truncated by browser"

All that means is the output is truncated by the browser. It DID finish compressing all the files.

Take a look at Suzanne's guide above, not doubt it will show you exactly what to do.

The only database file you need is the third option - the one direct from cPanel. The WordPress XML file is notoriously "buggy" and very rarely can you import it correctly.

Just use the one from cPanel, create your new database first, make sure the database login details you use are the same as the wp-config.php file then just import your SQL file. Upload all the rest of the WordPress files and you should be good to go!

Ernie, take a look at this plugin:

WordPress › WordPress EZ Backup WordPress Plugins

It takes all the files of your WP blog, including the Database, and zip them in a downloadable file.

I used it to transfer three blogs from one hosting to another with success

    Hope that this help you!

    Bye,

Nice to hear you've made some decent amount with what
    you focused on.

No offense to any other suggestions but I have done several using the plugin Massimo recommended. It was really easy and each time it worked flawlessly.
