Question about Flipping Sites and Domains

Hi Warriors!

I'm hoping to hear from some experts on site flipping and domains.

I'm getting ready to launch several niche sites. I'm considering using one main domain w/ subdomains for each site (to save on registering 100 separate names).

One of my concerns w/ using sub-domains is if later on down the road I want to flip some of these sites, can I sell a sub-domain URL while still maintaining the main domain name as my own? My guess is that I can't, so I should go ahead and bite the bullet and register separate domains for each site.

Any suggestions?

Yes, go with separate domain names, and here's another tip: avoid .info domains, they are less valuable in flips. Also, pick up my free wso, it's on flipping blogs and you should find it useful.

    Hi,

Tommy is 100% correct about "selling" / "flipping."

However, you can actually make more money with your subdomains. You don't sell them you "rent" them.

For instance, and this is just an example, If you owned the URL InNewYork.com you could set up subdomains that redirected to the businesses webpages and charge $5, $10, or even more per month.

    TheBestDentist.InNewYork.com, TheBestPizza.InNewYork.com, MyFavoriteRestaurant.InNewYork.com, TheGreatestMovies.InNewYork.com, etc.

The uses for subdomains in this way are limitless. All the towns, cities, Streets and Counties in the world are possibilities.

Thinking small one URL with 100 subdomains renting for $1 a month would earn $1,200 a year. Much more than a turnkey flip.

Separate domains can be hived off easily and while you are on the subject of flipping it would be easier if you could go in for a reseller hosting account so you can offer their own cpanel and hosting for a limited time.

One thing is transfer of domains and files is hassle free and it is a unique selling point offering hosting with your sites. sometimes these little points can clinch a sale faster.

  • you can't sell a subdomain because it's not a real domain
it's just a subdirs in your actual domain.

if you want to flip, yo can go with a hosting company that provides you with unlimited addon domains

addon domains are an actual domains that are pointed to subdir within your actual domain that you can use both as a subdomain or an individual domain

    that's the better choice
and you can rent these as well

Definately spring for a .com domain for each.

One of my biggest regrets is that I did the same thing a few years back to save money. I registered a bunch of .coms on general topics and then made subdomains on more specific topics within the niche. It limited my options later on.

You should always have an exit strategy and having the ability to sell your domains should you get bored with them, want to invest in another business or even, perhaps, retire is a great option!
