The magic of marketing

Marketing is often compared to magic.. and I also agree that it is.

If you also agree that marketing is a bit like magic.. why?

I've got my theories but would be really interested in what you guys think.

Personally I think it's being able to change how you view things.. i.e. moving yourself into the mind of your customer, the same way a magician moves his mind into the folks watching the trick -- seeing things from their perspective as a priority.

    I think copywriting is more like magic as you can create cash almost out of thin air from what I have seen. I really wouldn't say marketing itself is like magic. That's just my opinion though.

    Perhaps we shouldn't compare marketing to magic in terms of sleight of hand or having tricks up one's sleeve. I see marketing as a way of letting people know that you have something of VALUE to offer them.
