This is kinda a newbie question. Is it better to keep a company blog on wordpress (businessname.wordpress.com) or is it better to use wordpress.org and have it (businessname.com/blog/).

What are the advantages and disadvantages?

You want to work on your own domain and have total control, sure their will be a bit of a learning curve if you are starting out. However, if you are serious about your business (and the fact that you are posting on a marketing forum would leave me to believe you are) then you should move forward in this manner.

It is best to have your own domain, however for SEO purposes create accounts on both Wordpress sites and include relevant content that points (links) back to your business site.

Great idea. I had never thought to test SEO stuff with a free wordpress account. Thanks.

It is better to self-host your blog for a number of reasons:

    1. It gives a more professional impression to your visitors
    2. If you're using certain types of affiliate programs, you need to have your own site (i.e. azoogle, sharesale, etc.)
    3. You really should have control of your own site and not depend on a platform which may change their tos, or services and leave you in a bind

There are many other reasons but these are just a few off the top of my mind.

    Have a great day!

For business blog better use self hosted wordpress.org

    Because

1.If you use wordpress.com you can't use the plugin. In wordpress.com just you can learn how to use wordpress.

2.Due to long url it's difficult to people remeber your domain.

As everyone is stating having your own blog is truly the only way to go for whatever niche you get into. I would only ever use wordpress for perhaps testing a market first and then get your own site. Also make sure you use your keywords in the domain after doing thorough keyword research.

There is no doubt that owning your personal domain name hosted will give you more professional look.

it will let you have your personalised email
It will let you express your self.
It is also not going to prevent you from setting up same with free blog such as yourcompany.blogspot or yourcompany.wordpress. which you can use in redirecting traffic to your normal blog
