Selling a Website: Need some Seasoned Warrior's Opinions..=)

Hey fellow warriors..

I am moving on to new things and would like to sell my ecommerce website.. However am confused about accessing the value of it..

It has been online since feb 2007 as nitrocut then switched to nitrotrim.. It has a little seo and bum traffic from articles and forums.

The majority of my sales come from media buying and works very well.. Last year I made 77k net and grossed around 55k for the year.

Someone told me to charge what I am making plus a few months..is this the case? Any experienced sellers been through this?

Thanks in advance...

Kim

      Thanks,

I would personally not sell a site earning a decent income like that. Like what was mentioned I would hire somebody to manage it. But if you really like to sell it anyway, you should price it around at least 10-12 times its monthly income and some more if you rank well in SE's.

Ok so don't price it at what I brought in for the year.. Go by monthly x 3 or 4 months? Also what about my time and sweat to get it at what it has become? Doesn't that count for something...

I'm writing here by what I see most people in DP forum are doing. Basically, the website rate formula they're using is : earn per month x 12.

But the number can be increased to 24,36 and so on depend on your website potential. People for sure will buy if they find the website already have traffic and earning.

But for me, if I earn an income like that, I'm willing to hire someone to maintain it rather than to sold it.

        Just my 2 cent.

I see that everyone is suggesting that I just hire someone to maintain it.. but there is more to it than that...

Because I do media buying that would involve someone that is knowledgable in negotiating, knowing the industry, handling CS, chargebacks ect...tracking, direct track ec...

There is alot more to it than meets the eye... I spend about 4 to 5 hrs a day maintaining everything and making new deals.... So to hire someone that is knowledgable in the area, you would think that one would just do it on there own..

And to train someone that is not familiar is just not up my alley.. I don't have the time....

I think this is a huge factor in what you will get for the site. The person who buys it would then have to have this same knowledge and skills to keep it making money, right?

And they would also need to spend 4-5 hours a day just to keep up the $55k a year profit?

Seems to me this would actually be a drawback for most buyers or maybe there are a lot of people who know how to do this and are looking for an established site.

Stable e-commerce sites like yours should sell for more than 3-4 months revenue. However, it would be hard pushed to go beyond 12 months given the workload involved. That is unless it is not fully monetarized and a potential buyer can make much more than you are making now.

Honestly, nobody knows for sure unless you put it up for sale. I would suggest that you set a high BIN price of over 100K, but start with a much lower initial bid price. You can always have a reserve so that you are not committed to selling it unless it reachs your target price.

The url is www.nitrotrim.com... I am only running with one cpa network.. I have friends in the industry that are making 10 times the amount but again the work load goes up of course..

Yes it is a draw back for the amount of time you have to put in but if you are savvy and have some experience then the potential could skyrocket.. My skills are media buying.. I have not even touched ppc, or other avenues, so really if they are creative you could make so much more than me.. I have just lost interest and would like to move on...

I really appreciate everyone's post as it gives me some thought as to what I should list it for..

      Thanks again....

k so I have under quoted about 40k... But the actually monthly does fluctuate depending on your media negotiations.. As you can see in month I brought in over 18k and another it was only around 1500.. and others it was 5 or 6 k...

But thanks, never thought of sedo...

You want the truth... here it is

Screw what other people say about keeping it. It's YOUR website and
YOU can do whatever YOU want for whatever reason YOU want.

Me personally, I'd sell it too. I'd much rather have $100k in my pocket
right now than make $8333.33 per month for a year.

As far as what your asking price should be.

You already said that in hiring a person they need to be knowledgeable
in negotiating, etc and you don't have time to train, correct?

So, you're admitting that the person buying it HAS to know what their
doing in order to keep the profits similar.

That hurts your sale. The more automated, the more money you'll make
      on the sale.

Knowing what little I know, most aren't going to buy it for 12 times the
monthly revenue. I would guess a more realistic 6-10 times your monthly.

If you provide free training for 30,60,90 days for the new owner, it may
increase price. But with it being the way it is, my uneducated guess
would make your website worth around $27,500-45,800 depending on
what support you offer AFTER the transaction has been made.

I have sold sites for varying ranges, IE: 5-12 months revenue. It sounds like your site is pretty valuable.
