Part Numbers or Model Numbers as Domain Names

Hi Everyone,

Are we allowed to use part numbers/model numbers in exact match domain names providing we do not use the companies name?

    Yes, I think that you can use model numbers as your domain. I have seen a few here and there. I'm not sure how well it will work in terms of SEO though.

    Someone can trademark a number, but only for a specific use. Like Boeing has trademarks for "737," "747," etc.

    You can also search the trademark databases to see if they're registered. (sorry can't post links)

      You should check with the manufacturer or product provider's terms and conditions before doing this. Most will post a list of restricted terms that you are NOT allowed to use, if you are selling an affiliate or associate type product.

        By can we use part numbers, i mean the part number of a hard drive for instance?

        I didnt think that alphanumeric part numbers were normally registered as trade marks?

        I'm just trying to get some opinions on the state of play rather than setting up sites and getting caught up in legal problems..

          Generic part numbers shouldn't land you in any hot water, but that is not a legal opinion. Just use caution and double check that these are not somehow tied to trade names, trademarks, protected terms and the like.
