finding the right product with keyword research?

Hello everybody!

I first want to start out by saying this site is great. I have been researching different things about IM for a few months now and I think it presents a great opportunity for people like myself. Although I haven't been able to make that much yet, I have made a couple hundred dollars off of PPC campaigns that lead directly to my CPA offers.

My problem though is that I cannot seem to find a product along with a certain keyword to base a website off of. What I am trying to do is make a simple website that will hopefully rank on the first page of Google. What I have been doing is going to my CPA networks, finding a product, and then looking up keywords for that product that I could potentially base a website off of. I haven't been able to find any really that have enough monthly searches with low competition.

For example, I just found a camera on Amazon. So I searched the keyword on Google's keyword tool and it has 2400 exact global monthly searches. But when I type it in to Google it has 167,000 results. Now I am a noob so I really do not think that I can rank above these other 167,000 websites.

If there is any tips or advice anyone can give me I would greatly appreciate it. I have been looking for something to make a website on for quite some time now but I just cannot seem to find the right thing to get started on.

Thank you.

167,000 competition results isn't a number that should scare you off.
Just because there are that many pages doesn't mean they've been constructed properly and will outrank you.

You might have to drill down deeper into the product to find less competition.

Are their certain types of products that I should be looking at? Because I have kind of just been looking at whatever I can find a good keyword for.

You look for products or services where people spend money to acquire them.
Most importantly you find products or services where ADVERTISERS spend money to display ads to attract buyers.

You find the most expensive keywords (from an advertisers point of view) with the least amount of competition. There are plenty out there.

Look at the things in your house, in the news, in the newspapers, all around you. Whats currently popular.
Programs like Micro Niche Finder and Market Samurai are good for washing keywords.

I agree with Debbie that a good program could really help you out here. I currently use Market Samurai & absolutely love it. It gives me keyword ideas and then tells me how many visitors I can expect & how hard it is to rank for that specific keyword.

You can get a free 7 day trial at their website so you can try it out for yourself, or go to Keyword Analysis Tool - Market Samurai & do their "thirty day challenge" - same as 7 day trial but for 40 days (yes, 40, even though its a 30 day challenge, go figure?)

I like to use the google keyword tool to get keyword ideas, pop them into the "keyword research" module on the app, analyze competition & traffic, then pick out individual keywords to use in the "seo competition" module to evaluate the strength of the competition. I can get a lot of keywords analyzed and picked out in just a few minutes.

Find a niche you really care about and are genuinely interested, and preferably one you know something about. If you don't, then research it - it won't be painful because you're genuinely interested. Get something rolling in that niche and your genuine interest and expertise in the niche will push you forward.

If you can only buy one
Market Samurai is the best one

I have both and I use both (Micro Niche Finder and MS)

I do keyword research for other people and I find between both programs I've left no stone unturned.
