Waiting for comments on my blog!

Hey everyone,

I just thought I'd write this little piece about people who spam comments on blogs. I've got 15 comments on my blog, all of which were spam (pharmaceutical products etc etc), nothing that I would like to have associated with my site!!

I've been involved in internet marketing for 2 years now and I don't know of any service that allows me to automatically comment on peoples blogs.

I can see the value for such a service i.e. you get back links and exposure for your site, but are YOU providing value using such a service?

I urge anyone out there who is considering sending me an automatic blog commenting gizmo thingy comment, not to bother because I won't accept it. Why do people always get distracted by things that aren't actually (when you boil it down and think about what Internet Marketing is and how to be successful in it) beneficial for their business?
It's beyond me!!

I use Akismet plugin to prevent spam comments.

Even when I get comment made for only getting backlinks, I simple delete or trash them.

I use Akismet as well and it is quite effective. A couple other things you can do is take and (I assume you're using Wordpress) start to assemble a list of blacklisted keywords (viagra, penis-enlargement, etc.) and insert them into the 'Discussion' part of your dashboard under settings.

One other thing I do with all my blogs is I disable comments after 14 days (there is a setting in WP for this). The logic is that after two weeks the conversation, if there ever was one, is now over and there's no real point in perpetuating it - and this is especially true if your topics cover current events type of stuff.

Well, first of all, what makes you think that these people are on the WF?

Second, yes there is such software which allows you to automatically
posts comments on blogs and forums.

Just install Akismet on your blog and let it take care of all
    your SPAM needs.

Funny, it's a 3rd post I see today on the forums related to this issue.

Why are people so annoyed by SPAM comments? I mean it's not
    like this never happened before?

    Just ignore 'em!

I find that hard to believe. You've been doing IM for 2 years and you've never, ever, even heard of spamming tools?

Sure, but a small percentage of the other 10,000 sites they're sending the comment to in the next 10 minutes aren't moderating comments, profiles and so forth. Spamming like this is a numbers game and the bigger the numbers, the bigger the results.

    Disable comments or require login.

    Even Seth Godin disables comments.

Unless you can afford to outsource comment moderation otherwise, then this whole line of thinking will be a waste of time and a losing battle.

I just deleted 1000+ spam comments on one of my blogs.. and yes, it's a pain in the xxxx.

I'm now using SI Captcha to block those spammers... but who knows they might create a tool
    to bypass these plugins..
