Wordpress Updates and Pings

I'm still working on my first Wordpress site, and am concerned about excessive pinging.

So far, I'm doing a lot of updating, and I understand that ping-o-matic gets pinged every time. I finally had the bright idea of deleting ping-o-matic from the settings, and since I have pages instead of posts, and don't expect to have more then ten or so when I'm finished, I should be okay, right? I just have to remember to do the pinging myself.

Am I thinking right on this issue, or am I missing something?

Install a plugin in like MaxBlogPress (that's just the one I use, I'm sure there are others) that control when your posts/pages are pinged - problem solved

You want to use the MaxBlogPress Ping Optimizer plugin

Once the plugin is uploaded and activated go to settings > MBP Ping Optimizer > Check the two boxes that say Enable pinging and Limit excessive pinging in short time - set it to ping at most 1 time within 60 minutes (that's what I use, you can change it if you want).

Okay, great, two recommendations for the same product. I'll get it today.

Do I go back to wordpress settings now and put back ping-o-matic, or is pinging built into this other product?

I also recommend the above plugin.

Put pingomatic back into your WP settings and activate the plugin and you are all set.
