If you were "stuck" with a site that's #1...

Hello all,

I have a domain name that's #1 (2,750,000 broad search and 49,000 phrase), and I haven't touched it in like a year or so.

I'm an SEO guy/web designer, and I do alot for offline businesses, but I figured I should do SOMETHING with this site since its at the top for a decently-competitive keyword, and is getting hits even though I'm not promoting it.

I bought the domain back in like 2008 when I bought in to an MLM, and I have kept the domain , and now I have nothing to do with it.

The domain name is in the "wealth" niche, and I just checked this morning and I just checked my traffic stats (from May 1 til today May 24) and it has gotten over 850 visits.

I don't really know what to do with it. For now I have a bullshyt squeeze page on there (which is funny because there's no "content")from my days with the MLM, but I've been soooo busy with other projects that I haven't had any time to do anything with it.

So I ask... if you were me... would you:

- update the squeeze page and offer an autoresponder series in the IM niche?
- create a content site (original articles) and stick Adsense ads on it?
- Sell it as-is?

I also have another site that's in the Forex niche that's #1 (4,800,000 broad and 792,000 phrase)... actually #2 in the phrase (in-quotes) search... but just have not had time to devote to it.

Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

You could redirect it to an affiliate offer that is related to the keywords of the domain.

This would probably be the fastest way of getting some quick cash from the domains

Thanks Glyn... I thought about that too, but I didn't know if that would hurt my ranking with a redirect.

if you don't care about it anymore and are neglecting it then stick one of those ugly hover ads to build a list with it.

Set the autoresponder on autopilot for a year or two.

Then come back and report if you got any results.

P.S: Do not redirect to an affiliate offer as that's silly when you can do what I said above and direct them to hundreds of affiliate offers via email. ;-)

Thanks alot! its not that I "don't care" about it... its just that I've been focusing on other things, and kinda "put this site to the site". I was amazed that it's held its ranking... its been #1 or #2 for a while now.

I'm leaning heavily toward creating an autoresponder series... just haven't figured out what "angle" I'll take. I'll sleep on it and think of something.

Thanks for this... and if I could thank you twice I would

I will eventually put it up on FLippa, but I wanted to get a good 6 months or so of proven revenue from the site before I auction it off. I have decent traffic numbers, but I wanted revenue proof also.

So maybe I'll take an hour or so for a couple weeks and get it together.

        Thanks again!

If it's got some value, they put it up on Flippa as is with a low BIN and get on with your core business. If it doesn't then set that domain to expire and save your the 10 bucks a year and more importantly the X hours you'll spend trying to figure out something to do with it that could be better spent on your main business.
Another great idea... I may do this once the site has been redone with a nice-sized list. Much appreciated.
