Don't over complicate this or over think it, there are good niches all over the place.

By a good niche you are really looking for somewhere people are looking for something, and that sales are being made. Then you just need to find the right approach such as good keywords and competition levels.

You could even just look at what's selling well and then figure out a "way in" such as a "micro niche" (whatever that really means?)

      Get stuck in,

You might be suffering from overload. Meaning there are just some many places to get started you are having a hard time picking one. Every IMer has their own pet way of selecting niches and there is plenty of help right here on the forum if you search for it.

Think about the problems people are having in everyday life where they would desperately like to find a fast solution. Could be financial, relationships, health... just about anything. The age old adage still holds true. Find a need and fill it.

There are a ton of niches out there, but you may have a better shot at finding a micro-niche... which is a niche that's nested inside of a niche.

    Example...

    Niche: Weight loss
    Micro niche: Cellulite
    Micro niche: Burn Cellulite

    2900 broad searches
    888 phrase searches
    6,080,000 competing sites (broad match)
    53,000 competing sites (in quotes)

Not too tough... all of the high ranking sites are article directories. Create a site with good original content... get some backlinks... create a quick slideshow/video and submit it to Youtube with a link to your site... you'll be on page one in no time flat.

    Thank me later LOL!

Work from successful products and service backward...you can do all the niche research and investigation you want on demand, but it really comes down to identifying products/services that are proven sellers, then work backward to find how you target the demand.

Start thinking outside the box. There are thousands of product on clickbank, there are so many niches yo just need to do some research in terms of keywords etc and go with it.

You can go to flippa.com, check what sites are selling with good profits and bam you have your self a niche, as easy as that.

I teach my coaching students to choose ate least 2 niches in different markets:

1: one old niche market with proven records (weight loss, etc).
2: a new market, maybe exploding in a couple years from now (electrical cars, etc).

This way they are making money NOW but they are also working their FUTURE.

Maybe you can do this too. Choose a proven market right now and a "new" market you'll capitalize in a couple years.

    Well,

You are looking at it in the wrong way. A niche is not something you find with a software tool. A niche is not a group of people who hang out together. A niche
is an opening within that group of people.

    Example:

    SEO market>
    Sub market > SEO software
Sub market > SEO software > SEO Supreme (not a real product)

You bought SEO Supreme to improve your Google rankings. But although SEO Supreme
works really great, it is very difficualt to learn how to take maximum advantage of
the software. So you start looking around and realize that there are no good how to
videos that explains step-by-step how to use SEO Supreme for maximum results.

So you start asking around and realize that not only is there no such a product (or the
ones there are, are not up to par) but there are a lot of people that bough SEO Supreme
for $497 that are looking for the exact same thing (videos explaning how to use the software for maximum results)

There is your niche. An opening in a tightly focused group of people. Selling a high quality video that explains how to use the software will be like shooting fish in a barrel.

    Hope that helps

I'd say try not to think so much about it and go with what you know and what you are passionate about. A lot of people talk about statistics and "saturated" niches, but your best bet would probably be to do some experimenting on what you know.

Also don't just try one niche, try some other niches that you might be knowledgable about and get a feel for where you can profit the most from. Don't let competition and saturation scare you. If you know what you are talking about, then you will be okay.

But then there is the popularity of the niche.

I think anything that deals with video or social media right now is good niche to be in. I thought both trends would cool in the past few years, instead they seem to only get hotter and hotter. Put yourself where the people are, and give them something they want, the money will follow.

I have two things to add to the excellent advice already offered here:

    1. Define the issue - is it that you can't find a niche, or can't decide on a niche?

    2. Go to Borders, B & N, your local magazine store. What magazines are on the racks, and what kind of advertising do you see? If there's print advertising money being spent, it's worth pursuing. Then come home and do your keyword research based on what you've found.

Just narrow it down. For example, here are the big categories: health and fitness, dating and relationships, business and money. What I like to do is go to the bookstore and go to the magazine rack for my niche ideas.

For example, I might go into the dating niche. That's too board. How about dating for Asian men? How about Dating for Asian men who's into interracial relationships? NOW that's a niche etc.

Basically, go to your local bookstore magazine rack :]

Actually and this is no reflection on any software offered in this thread, but, and I stress this, the niche is waiting for you to discover it,

No, software can show you the niche that you really need, sure it can show you all kinds of niches, but the one that is the most profitable, that has to come from inside.

Profitable niches, are for the most part, something that you care about, something that you are passionate about, something that is expensive, (just kidding)

Seriously a profitable niche is one that you can easily write about over and over again because you like it, for some people it is about starwars, others is it about loosing weight, or quitting smoking, what ever your niche is it is waiting on you to discover it and take advantage of it,

Think about what you truly care about, think about what you would get mad about if someone said the wrong thing to you...

    What would that be?

It could be coffee, it could be a certain dessert, it could be just about anything, but only you know what that thing inside you is.

What would make you made right now if I were to tell you that I thought your favorite movie stunk, or what would get you angry if someone were to insult your favorite, thing?

I absolutely agree 100% with that comment! Beginners often look for some kind of new untapped niches to explore but it's very hard to find. You should realize that a niche like "weight loss" can still be very profitable today for a newbie with little experience, it all depends on the keywords you choose!

Lots of great advice here. I always like to start with topics I have some interest in. Over the long haul, it helps to have some "connection" with what you're marketing. If not, the long-term process of building a valuable business will become a grind.

What interests you? What is fun for you? What do you know about already? What have you always wanted to learn? Start here and then research for what makes money within these interests...

Also, Amazon is a goldmine for niche research. Find your topics and check how books/products are selling on Amazon. Everything is ranked for you.

Drilling into Health / Money / Relationship categories always smart....

    1)Find a problem people have
    2)Learn the problem well
    3)Find a product/service that solves the problem
    4)Learn the product/service well
5)Sell the product/service to those who have the problem.

    Eg:

1)So many people suffer from acne
    2)You learn about acne well
3)You find a good product that solves acne
4)you lean about the product well
5)You sell the product to acne sufferers through your web site or blog.

The more desperate the problem is the more profit you make.

Make sure that the product is not a rip off.

I really don't have time to read every message so sorry if I'm repeating anything.

First, search the forum - there are a few very good how to threads on this.

Try googles search based keyword tool - it allows you to browse major markets and find niches and micro niches based on how popular they are (debateable).

And another ++ for market samurai - there is also micro niche finder too which might help.

    Good luck!

If the money doesn't motivate you, make sure your passion does!
