Best Way To Lean Software Programs?

Hi,

This is aimed at those who have been in the IM game for years and successful. What method do you use when learning I find video tutorials helpful but sometimes the amount of time it takes is uneccessary.

Is playing around with programs and making mistakes the easiest way to learn?

The documentation, hit and trial with the Software, Google, forums, video tutorials and ebooks are the ways I prefer in that order.
