help with ranking sniper site

So i found a nice keyword with low competition and registered the .net domain extension of it and whipped up a wordpress blog with some unique articles now I want to get it ranked for my main keyword.

The question is do I backlink to www.mydomain.com or www.mydomain.com/10/25/article title zyz/ (the first article I would of posted targeting my main keyword)

i usually just follow the steps george outlines, and take it one step further with an anchor text article on ezine articles, articles base, etc.

You should be ok with that. Don't worry about the sandbox, if it's gonna happen it's gonna happen. Nothing you can do to control it.

Yes, it's good to backlink to both but I would
first focus on backlinking to the main domain.

    Anyone have a definitive answer?

Say my domain is cats-love-dogs.com! and "cats love dogs" is the keyword I'm targeting.

I write my first post on my blog targeting the keyword cats love dogs but do I link it to my domain titled www.cats-love-dogs.com or the inner page of the article which would be www. cats-love-dogs.com/3 reasons why cats love dogs

Backlink to your domain. Because your home page is the page targeting the keyword, and all your articles/posts are on that page, you should link to that page with that keyword.

You only have to link to a particular post/page if you're trying to rank for that post/page. Or maybe you'd do that for larger sites which require more work than these sniper sites you're talking about.

Just link to your domain and you should be fine. I only link to inner pages/posts for larger sites going after multiple keyword phrases.

I'm not a big fan of the sniper system...There's so much left out that it holds you back.

Keep your keywords in your anchor text at all times, but switch it up from time to time as well.

Let's say your keyword term is, like mine, "custom exterior shutters"

Vary your anchor text like so...using my keyword as an example

      Custom exterior shutters for homes
A large selection of custom exterior shutters
      Wooden custom exterior shutters
      cheap custom exterior shutters

That's all one link, but it's just an example pretend each line is a seperate link.

Notice how I have my main keyword in every anchor text, as well as switching it up by making them longer tail keywords/LSI's?

This not only gives you your main keyword in anchor text, but some LSI's as well at the same time.

This is how I built the backlinks to this site to get on page 1. Each backlink links to my main site...every single link.

      I also rank for some LSI's as well, it's a 1 - 2 combo with anchor text.

This is actually I believe my very first small niche site....
I made it page 1 of google, this was my first ever small niche site....
      www.customexteriorshutters.org
It's actually a pretty competitive first page I underestimated it because I thought with 7,000 competing pages in quotes...it should be easy . But eventually I worked my way up with some elbow grease.

**See my thread titled "how to evaluate your competition. How to decide if it's a battle you can win" it should help you out with your competition research a little bit, especially with these "sniper" sites.
