Hello all, I've created my first website and looking for opinions on ways to monetize it. The site is only a few weeks old but is already at the top of the second page of google results purely from SEO and weak competition, so I'm confident with more work that I can get at the top of the first page.

The site has sport related informational content, I have 5 static pages at the moment with my main keyword being the homepage and 4 related keywords as extra pages.

So how would you go about monetizing this kind of site? I've looked at clickbank but there are only really 1 or 2 related products I could promote, although amazon has a lot of related products, but they are mostly books and dvds. Or should I be looking at adsense maybe? To give you an idea of the traffic, the keyword gets 4400 global exact monthly searches according to google keyword tool.

So what would you do?

It is a good idea to start with adsense. You can move to other programs as the traffic will increase.

I think when you first start out, you should try a mixture of different earning sources, and see which one works best. Also, keep an eye on your traffic. If after trying 1 method, traffic slows down a lot, maybe you want to cut off that method.

I have lots of links to easy to start monetization methods in my signature.

Would I encounter any problems with putting adsense on such a young site? Will Google be suspicous?

So do you mean I should try clickbank, amazon and adsense all at once and see which gets the most attention? Or is it better to try each one in turn?

If it's sports related there should be loads you can promote whether it's a general sports site or specific to one sport.

Guides, books, equipment, clothing, supplements, medications, services, membership clubs...

Have a look in some networks or search Google for affiliate programs,

This is the kind of thing I had in mind, but how would you go about promoting them on a site like mine? Are we talking about a few sidebar ads? or should I do something else like reviews, or some kind of resources page like someone else mentioned? I fully intend to test different methods but being a newbie I'm not really aware of any tried and true methods. Are there any? or should I stop asking questions and get promoting?

Thanks Gasen but it's not really the kind of sport that you would bet on. It's more of a fitness/recreational sport, not really a professional one.

There are also some clickbank offers for that, try going to the clickbank marketplace to get some ideas.

Try some affiliate offers related to that, if it's a strong niche consider building an email list, like they said trying to offer some sports betting offer can be a good thing to test. Anyways my advice is to test. Test Adsense, test affiliate offers, test everything and see that makes you the most profit and then stick to that.

It's kinda hard to help you without a url.

But to answer your question about Adsense. You can put it on a new site that's perfectly fine. But to make any money from adsense you need a lot of search engine traffic daily.

Just use affiliate offers that would be relevant to your site and niche. Checkout some of the popular affiliate networks like Commission junction.

Just a suggestion, you may want to work more on getting targeted traffic first, then you can test different forms of monetization on your site and see what converts. Unless you want to try cpc programs.

    good luck!

Hi Mr Day. The current situation is that the site is on the second page results of google for my keyword and this keyword gets around 4k exact searches per month. I have to be honest and say that I don't know if these figures are that good for making money? I haven't done any article submissions or built any backlinks or anything like that yet, I've simple created a static site and tried to optimize it for SEO as best I know how (still learning).

There is still some content I need to add and I'm not yet finished customizing the site how I want it, but I thought I could do this and monetize it as I go along but is this a bad idea? Should I finish building the site and ranking it first to get the traffic and then monetize? or is it worth monetizing straight away?

I'm only starting out in IM and I plan to create myself a detailed step by step guide so that for my next site I can plan it better, but for now, I have to admit that I'm kind of learning as I go along.

Sorry for the bump. I noticed that the thread had already gone to the depths of page 4 so maybe some people hadn't had a chance to see it and add their pearls of wisdom. Really appreciate the advice being given.

          nightxowl,

Hard to say without knowing the topic, but have you considered whether or not you can create your own product to fulfill a need in the niche? Can you offer something of value that would enable you to build a list?

I would absolutely start with adsense. Then I would add a sidebar ad or banner for one of the clickbank ads and maybe for a couple of Amazon ads.

Make it look neat and not too distracting for the reader and I think it should do well.

Thanks for advice everyone. I think I'm going to have a small section below the header for adsense and then probably 1 amazon/clickbank ad in the sidebar and 1 within the page content between paragraphs if it doesn't look too untidy. I'll also check out some of the other affilates for my keyword to see if I can get some better products to promote rather than just books and dvds.

Is it frowned upon on these forums to give thanks to everyone who posted in my thread?

IMO Adsense is a waste. A few cents a click. I have totally went to CPA offers. I either make my own banners or outsource it for offers. Even if someone does 1 email Submit at $1.50 it takes a lot of Adsence clicks for that, and you can do even better if you populate it thru other means first such as opt-in on your site for newsletter or what ever.

Until you find a product that you can promote,
I'd go for selling Banner AdSpace via Google Content network
    as well as adsense...
