    Hi Monitorit,

I'm sorry to hear that your business has taken a down turn, but the answer to your question is YES, there are ALWAYS going to be people making money, no matter what state the world is in.

In terms of the "internet marketing" niche, now more than ever, people are looking for ways to make an additional income so you shouldn't be affected too much.

Maybe you just need to re-think your business plan.

    Cheers,

    Anthony

this usually happens during the first few months because people
tend to save their money and think twice before spending their
    hard-earned money.

Hobbies should start an upturn. People don't have enough money, or don't want to spend the money, on more expensive pursuits like travel, the theatre, or home improvements. Hobbies give them a recreational outlet.

You will be shocked how expensive men's hobbies can get! I have spent tens of thousands on radio control aircraft, luxury watches and photographic equipment. Fortunately, I can no longer spend more as my wife forbids me. However, this would be a tiny sum compared to those who may be hooked on golf, cars, and mistresses!

The only thing that I can say to you is that you should not quit and just move forward. Even though things seem darkest for you, don't give up.

This is going to be my highest earning month ever - don't let the economy hurt your business! Think about what people need, then give it to them. Okay so your current niches aren't doing well - park yourself in niches that people want info on!

How to make money from home

Copywriters are in greater demand because business's marketing departments are downsizing - give these people affiliate links to copywriting courses and ebooks

More people are cooking at home - tell them how to make gourmet meals for less - I'd plunk down money for an ebook that promised to save me more than that in one meal alone. (Think about how much a steak dinner at Morton's costs!)

See? There's plenty of ways you can make money ... may just need to change course a little bit.

I am the "Struggling Marketer" that knows so little and is still waiting on that first sale. Although I have exceeded 6000 visitors to my web site, within the last two weeks, I still have not made my first sale. Discouraging, to say the least. But I will never quit! :>)

I don't think internet market ever ceases to be a struggle. Sometimes that struggle is enjoyable and sometimes it really isn't. Even though I really think that adds to the beauty of the game, I've had friends that have been hit by the recession as well. That kind of stuff keeps your eyes open - which is a good thing I guess.

I'm just getting going with Internet Marketing and it seems like a great time! I guess if I can find a way to be successful now, I would have learned lessons that can carry through when times are even better.

The person who wrote Rich Dad, Poor Dad has a wife who also does real estate investing and one thing she said resonated. She got into the business back in the recession in the 80's and now look at it. No matter what the economy is life there will always be profit potential. It depends on how well you adapt.

We had a real slow week two weeks ago, but then it picked up again during the middle of last week.

We just try to stay focused on what we are working on today and not get caught up in the ups and downs of the economic cycle. Just spend the majority of your time being a problem solver instead of a problem definer and work on what you can actually control.

We also do not spend a lot of time reading or listening to all the negative bad news most people want to talk about. Each day we have opportunities for success and we are focusing on grabbing those by the throat!

Any time that you have a recession of this magnitude, which has a worldwide impact, you are likely to notice a slump in sales, whether you are a brick and mortar or on the internet.

I think the key to getting through it is just to always focus on the solution to your problem, and not to get bogged down and discouraged with the problem itself. If your niche isn't working for you, then find one that will. But always keep building and keep moving forward.

For my own sites, I took a hit earlier in the month, but they do seem to be rebounding now. So, I can't say that it's affected me much yet. What the future holds is always uncertain though. So I am ready to adapt as necessary.

I would think that in a "bad economy" situation like we have now, people would be turning to the internet more & more to search for better deals?
    {{ DiscussionBoard.errors[189395].message }}
  • It seems that if you're in the IM niche, you'll see an increase in sales.

My biggest niche is job related (as in information on getting a new job) and it has picked up significantly since the economic crisis.

My revenue hasn't been affected at all by the financial crisis.

In fact, it could be even better if I wasn't so lazy.

Some great points made - and Anthony nailed it right off the bat. I actually had a pretty heated debate a few hours ago on this same topic.

No matter how crappy the world economy is, it costs money to live - people will never stop spending money. We could be in the middle of a civil war and people will still go see the latest movie, or download the latest album of itunes.

Don't think too far ahead as things online are never really stable when you think about it. Roll with the punches, test when needed, and revamp when prompted.. You'll be just fine.
