Hello great listers!

Quick question from the newbie zone. How important is HTML skill (understanding and writing) when it comes to success in this business? Anyone have any views?

Thanks for the input!

    Hi Nigel,

You can outsource this away.. i know many people in here do that. (i dont, personally though) .. But, it does help to learn a thing or two about this..

So you dont have to pay anyone to do minor tweaks ..

I think it's important to know the bare basics of HTML. It help in posting on a forum, not to mention articles and the above mentioned 'tweaks'. I love HTML Tutorials for the easy way you are taught.

It is very important because you need to understand how websites work.

The question is would you buy a plane without knowing how to fly?

May sound a little far fetched, but like anything else it is good to know a little bit about what you are getting into.

Outsourcing is a great inexpensive way to get lots of work done in little time but when it comes time to making changes or edits, you are stuck....Time is money in some markets and mistakes can cost you hundreds if not more.

So yes it is good to know a little bit about html but I would not focus on the mechanics of it but only the basics.

Treat is as a learn as you go process otherwise your head will be swimming in so much knowledge that you will be distracted from the overall BIG picture.

You could outsource this but like others have said it is good to know a little something at least. Here is the important thing though, don't let this (not knowing HTML) keep you from growing your business. Learn HTML as you go, but do not put your business on the back burner for it.

It is important because a website is part of an online business. There are times when you need to edit the text or links or add a banner. These are simple task you can do yourself if you know HTML.

There are lots of WYSIWIG editors you can play with. Just learn the basic tags and with a good editor, you will learn the basics of HTML. There are lots of "how to" videos or ebooks you can read. I learn it from '47 Newbie Marketing Videos'.

Don't just read or watch videos. The best way to learn is to make a simple website yourself. Try a one-page page first and upload it in a free hosting.

Or find a simple website template and examine the codes from a WYSIWIG editor and learn from it.

i dont think it matters but even if you just have a sales page who wants to pay a webmaster just to change it around or add a testimonial or whatever. so just the basics would help

It's always a good thing for you to have some knowledge but as some have said you can outsource.. But if you have simple things you want done it's better if you know how to do it yourself..
