Anyone else find this. By the time you find a decent book that fits the niche your in. Read through it, start editing it and most have to be practically re-written. Changed the graphics, re-written the sales page and generally tided everything up.
Well you may as well have put your own product together in the first place.
Personally I think they are a good source to get new ideas from. Or maybe a different slant on what you were thinking.

We are all different, its just my view.

    I agree Andy

Your own product is the only way to go most of these PLR ebooks are we wont say crap but not great plus using these usually leaves your list not as responsive as if you have your own product and filling in full of value for the reader.

Not all PLR products are created equal. Some are total crap, and I believe many warriors would be able to relate. On the other hand, some PLR products are excellent.

Generally, having dabbled (and still dabbling) in PLR, in order to turn a profit, I would normally use their content as a starting point to expand and expound. This allows me to quickly and easily come up with a content structure that far exceeds the original PLR product itself.

As Bryan mentioned, not all PLR is bad quality, there is about a 95% poor quality ratio to the 5% which is actually of a high standard and it can sometimes be difficult to highlight the high quality PLR from the poor, however it is there.

By using PLR you can save your self a lot of time as you have all the content you need, already written. If its of a decent quality then you wont need to rewrite it and instead you could just change the graphics and start marketing it.

There are so many possibilities and so much potential with PLR it is almost impossible not to be able to make money with PLR. You just need to try different outlets, and experiment, get creative.

Having your own product can often leave you with a big hole in your pocket until you recoup the costs, and with most digital products pricing at around $27-$47 it can be anywhere in between 20-40 sales.

Obviously everything I mentioned above is my own informed opinion, however I doubt it is far from the truth.

  • One thing I have noted during my time in the resell rights niche is that if you create a product that is full of valuable information, offer that product with private label rights, and sell a limited amount of copies, people are willing to pay more for the product. Especially since they know a limited number of copies are available. This also ensures the market is not saturated with the same product from numerous vendors.

A good plr e-book is very rare. Most are absolute garbage, 20 pages double spaced big font etc. Problem with plr also is they end up all over the internet. Look up any plr ebook and do a search for it, for example on Amazon. Youll find multiple copies of the same self published book for sale - different cover and author, exact same book!

I've never re-written a PLR product but I have made the mistake of trying to edit my own and ... almost re-writing them.

It's something I kinda worry about and even though I know you should see a PLR product as a 1st draft ... I know I'm inclined to agree with what you say and use them as a source of information and research.

Unless you've very good at just making it 'good enough' which is of course ... good enough!

You have to know where to look for the good ones, and what I have usually found is that they tend to cost more money.

But, when you do find a good provider you will be able to use the books almost unchanged. Then, if you do want to change them they give you a great starting point to tweak them and make them your own.

If an article writer charges you $10 per 500 word article... for a decent well researched article. Then you may be looking at $300+ for a decent ebook.

However, if that is the case if you have done your homework and researched the niche well enough. That $300 could be small potatoes compared to what you will make in the long term.

Put in simple terms... a $30 ebook would need to make just 10 sales to recoup that investment.

As stated here, not ALL PLR is the same. I LOVE PLR products and use them ALOT but some are just garbage and yes, you probably could have done better to start from scratch.

BUT it is a question of return on your investment. I happily pay $300-$500 for a great PLR product when I know I will get triple that amount back. It's all about what I will make in return, not what I have to spend.

It is definately a challenge to find great PLR but some of the best PLR resources are right here in the forums, especially in the classified ads sections. Warriors Rock!

If you find an excellent PLR product, the only thing that matters (IMO) is a unique sales letter and unique graphics.

Just curious why you think a unique sales letter is important. I mean if the one that comes with it is good, then why not use that?

      Pattern matching.

Human beings may not remember that they've read about something before... but they are very, very good at knowing whether they've seen the exact same thing before.

If someone sees your sales page, and it's IDENTICAL to one they've already seen, you become a plagiarist and scammer in their mind - whether you have the rights to that product or not. Nobody buys from scammers.

It's not really fair, but there it is.

Exactly my thoughts as well! I wouldn't say scammers though ... they look more like copy-cats (oh well, that's the same isn't it?)

I don't use a lot of PLR, but when I do I just use it for a starting point. If I can't change and add to it enough to make it at least 50% unique I probably won't sell it. I usually shoot for 75% unique. That's just me though. Everyone has their own line in the sand.

    Ahh... I see.

I actually thought it would be good to leave it the same because then someone who already bought the same book from someone else would know not to buy it.

I'm always worried that someone will buy the book and then be mad because it's the same one that someone else sold them!

Although that's never happened and I've sold quite a few PLR ebooks. Plus if my customers are as senile as I am, then they'd forget they read the other one anyway!

Caliban's comment was very astute, quite brilliant, actually. That's why I never use the same product title, the same graphics, the same sales page, and why I always rewrite at least 50% of the product and add a good deal of my own content to it as well.

I always seem to use PLR as my starting point. I like to make sure it is in my own words and I can understand it through and through. I have heard that there are products out there that are usable as is; however I have not had that experience yet.
