Alternatives to Elance?

Hi guys.

Has anyone done freelance work with "Freelancer" or "Guru" ??
Freelancer.com | Online Jobs | Freelance Employment | Outsourcing Services | Programmers | Web Design | Freelancers
Guru.com ? Find Freelancers for Hire. Get Your Project Done.

I'm wondering if they both require tax details or pay direct to ones Paypal account.

Thanks

odesk.com allows credit card payment or direct wire transfer if you speak to their consultants.

Just to clarify and prevent any confusion, Rentacoder does charge a service fee (as low as 6% in some situations). And it does require tax information since our workers are independent contractors. Thank you for the recommendation smokee.

Hang your shingle right here at WF in the Warriors For Hire section. Yes, you have to pay $20 to do it, but you'll get access to some better paying buyers here than at places like Elance.

Guru requires tax form. They are fairly expensive and I never won any projects with them. With Elance, I won many projects. Haven't used the other one. Don't use any of them anymore.

Honestly, I find Elance the best site for getting reasonably well paid jobs. It's harder there than it used to be, but I've heard worse things about other freelancing sites.

Now, admittedly this is for writing jobs, it may be different for other sorts of work.

I used scriptlance once but the problem was they those people were not very good. They will snatch the job and than disappear for 5-6 days. It did not work out much

In terms of quality, IMO there is no alternative. The only one that comes close is the flea market technology "Odesk", where you'll find people working for $1 an hour or creating custom WP sites for $10. All the others, their technologies suck so I don't even bother.

  • Elance is a great source of lead generation. If you are willing to lose money on the front-end (because you have to compete with freelancers who will complete the same project for 75-90% less) and overdeliver on the "quality" of your work, you will likely receive a client for life who will pay premium prices on future projects "away" from Elance.

Agentsofvalue.com but I always try the WF first...always. All of teh others are a total pain to find decent people event at premium prices. That said, I have spent considerabel time and effort hunting a few gems down and I keep them busy now...
