My Traffic Strategy for a new product

Hi all,

I am in the process of creating my first digital product which will be
a software tool that solves a very specific problem that a lot of people
are having. They are desperate to solve the problem and will (and do)
pay for a solution.

This will also be the first time that I will make use of Internet only
advertising (Normally I drive traffic with direct mail).

I am working on my traffic strategy. If you can add anything to the list,
please add it. Keep in mind that I will not be building a list as it is
not practical for this market. JV, Product launch also not practical.

Any input welcome.

Traffic Strategy:
================================

PPC:
Do keyword research
Write Adwords ads
Turn traffic on
Test and tweak
If all gos well, outsource to
3rd party to blow up campaign and
run with it.

Article Marketing:
outsource article creation (x number)
outsource distribution to 3rd party

Content Syndication
Outsource content syndication to 3rd party

Free eBook
Convert articles into eBook
Outsource distribution to 3rd party

Video Marketing:
outsource video creation (x number)
outsource distribution to 3rd party

Podcasting:
Outsource podcast creation (x number)
outsource distribution to 3rd party

Slideshows:
Outsource slideshow creation (x number)
Outsource distribution to 3rd party

Forum Marketing:
Outsource forum marketing to 3rd party

Affiliates
Create top notch affiliate centre
This includes tools and information that
will make it really easy for affiliates
to sell your product
Outsource affiliate recruitment to 3rd party

Press releases:
Outsource press release creation to 3rd party
Outsource distribution to 3rd party

SEO:
Outsource SEO to 3rd party.

The goal is to do the work once and put the whole thing on autopilot.
I want to take a supervision role with the project.

Again, any additional traffic generation strategies considered

A blog is a good way to promote.

You could also create Hub pages and Squidoo lenses.

What about opening a Twitter account and Facebook account to promote it.
You could try Facebook ads if you are not already including that in PPC.

    Good luck with it all.

Wow ... that's amazing! Even just a couple really well done is going to be good enough. All of them together is amazing!

I think the affiliate is the biggie and personally I really love affiliate programs that offer longer term cookies and pay on up-sells, down-sells and cross-selling after the first referral.

    Hi Big Al,

I agree. Affiliates will be the big factor and main traffic source. It will be the first time I make use of affiliates but I have studied what other vendors with a lot of affiliates do. Crediting for sales after the original referral is among the factors they have in common.

A lot of money will be spent in creating the affiliate resource centre. In my opinion, the best investment for a product owner.

      Hi,

I have reviewed your strategy and it is an excellent strategy to take off with.
However, You are outsourcing the majority of work to 3rd Parties. I do not see where the plan shifts from initial take off to auto pilot. For example: You modify your plan and create 2 packages: Silver and Gold.

The silver is sold outright for your planned price. The gold is sold at a higher price, you include tutorial videos, ebooks and updates for a year.

You put the GOLD plan on clickbank, this way your silver plan will generate the income you planned and the gold will attract the warriors and affiliates and they will promote your product for you. Now your on auto pilot. Again this is just an example on my "opinion" how I would do it.

      Thanks

    Hi Steve,

To be honnest, for me it is simple. At one stage or another I have used all the strategies mentioned above. I have never combined them all to produce a total traffic system dependant on pure online traffic. I am not new to business however nor to the Internet, so in theorie the plan will work. My post is just to get some more ideas on different traffic strategies to through into the mix.

For someone new however, it will not be that simple. No amount of money can buy you experience, even if you outsource, you must know whats cooking.

    Regards,

    Sam

PS. More traffic strategies still welcomed.

They're simple to set up, but to have all of them running simultaneously successfully with all of the outsourcing operations running coherently is a tall ask.

You've missed one of the biggest.. media buys.

      And offline advertising.

I come from a offline business background where I own a earth moving business, liquor store and overnight accommodation lodge. If you have systems in place, it is really not that hard.

Media buys. Have not thought of that, thanks, will add it to the list.

Offline advertising will not help in this case (I normally do direct mail) cause when the problem happens, they need a solution that same day.

    SuperMonster,

From take off to auto pilot happens when I stop "conducting" the inital take off. There are a lot of elements that need to come together. Once everything is in place, I only need to take a supervisors roll.

Product will have 2 options. Option 1 buy for normal price, option 2 will include a video tutorial as a Upsell.

Though the updates for a year is a good idea normally, the product solves an immediate problem that happens every once in a blue moon. Like a headace, you only use the tablets if you have a headace. But it happens to a LOT of people.

    Thanks for your post

    Hi Space,

Thanks for the post, I agree that blogs and squidoo lenses are great. They will fall under article distribution.

Sounds like a good plan I personally haven't had much success with my ebook.

I've guess I've learn the quality of the ebook is second to how you can market it.

Please do tell how this goes perhaps if it's successful you can create another product and sell it as a WSO I sure would be interested in purchasing it if it was for the right price.

    All the Best,
    Benjamin

You have an incredible plan! I thought I'd add my two cents...

Are you yourself on Faceook? Start friending peiple in the IM world (search different IM terms and friend people who are in those groups). Then start a fan page for your product and ask your friends to also "like" your fan page. You can give away your free ebook here, announce the launch, mention any special deals, etc. This is fairly simple and you can reach your target audience quickly.

Also, have you looked into Blog Carnivals?

    Hi Benjamin,

This is a long term project, it will take months. I know that doesn't sound sexy, but it will make money.

    Regarding your eBook:

Although the quality of your product has a great influance on how successfull it will ultimatly be especially if you are in it for the long haul, quality is not what makes a marketing campaign successfull.

Gary Halbert once said that if he was in a competition with someone else to see who can sell the most hamburgers and the other person got to choose what advantages they wan't over him (like superior meat, best location etc) he would only want ONE advantage and he will outsell them all day long.

The advantage he wanted was A STARVING CROWD. If you have a starving crowd your selling will be much easier and more profitable. So mabey your eBook is targeting the wrong crowd. If you want, you can PM me and I will have a look.

    With regards,

    Hi Etak,

Facebook, does that fall under Social Marketing? I have never done any Social Marketing like FB or Twitter but your idea does sound interesting. I will head over to the WSO forum to see what I can pick up on the subjects. If I like it, I will add it to the list (Social Marketing to be outsourced of course).

Thanks so much for the post.

Along with PPC you could also use PPV as another paid traffic method.
