Hey guy's,

Was looking online for some Grants for my wife's college when I cam across a site that offers internet marketing training. Doing a bit of digging into it I found out that they accept salie may but they are not set up for anything else, including grants/scholarships. My question is has anyone here been with them or know of something about them? They seem legit, everything looks good, and they are partnered up with Saliea may. So, what do you think?

I would say so. That's not even the real university of SF I guarantee you that. It doesn't even state their address on the website.

It is the "real" USF. It's an online certificate offered through their School of Business and Professional Studies. Whether the certificate is worth anything is a different matter. I haven't looked into it far enough to have an opinion. Here's a link from the USF site: Online Certificates

All I can tell you is that the prices are comparable with other masters course, but interestingingly it does not say a masters course it says masters certification and I wonder what that means.

According to the US government, it means nothing. That site isn't a .edu either, but you can always send them an email and ask if it's a nationally accredited degree.

Even if it isn't, as long as you learn enough to do well, it's worth something. Just make VERY sure you know what you're getting into :-)

  • Just checked...

    Apparently...

"University of San Francisco is an accredited university.

The University of San Francisco's School of Business and Management is accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB International is the primary accrediting association for American schools of business).

The University of San Francisco is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC), and was unconditionally reaffirmed for the maximum seven years during its most recent review.

It was established in 1855 as San Francisco's first institution of higher education and has grown to become the city's largest independent university campus, covering 55 acres on a hilltop near Golden Gate Park, where it overlooks downtown San Francisco and the Pacific Ocean."

So it appears to be legit.

Consider this... there are millions of web pages (estimate) and thousands of ebooks/courses/forums/friends that have made it that will help for internet marketing studies.

The power of USING that information is in:

1 - relationships (and arguably psychology)
    2 - marketing
    3 - business management
    4 - copy creation/language mastery
    5 - communications
6 - thirst for the next win

Your wife can find lots of college courses for several of the above as she chooses and gather the rest with online/offline communication.

The "value" of an Internet Marketing Degree/Certificate whatever is nill (IMHO) to nearly any corporate entity, and probably even less for an entrepreneur. Learn how to manage a business, set goals, make contacts, communicate effectively, manage time, build relationships, generate ideas and influence others - that builds a business.

If the online thing doesn't work out for her and she is prepared in these areas, she can do any j-o-b.

I wish your wife all the best with her studies.

University of San Francisco uses a third party company to provide online courses. The only thing you get is the accreditation/diploma by USF. The methods and professors are provided by University Alliance (www. universityalliance.com/info/). You can even find better ranked universities using them. As mentioned, you won't get their education quality but their name on your diploma.

Some universities use www. ecollege.com and others www. ed2go.com/

The certificate is issued by the University of San Francisco, an accredited Jesuit university. It's as real as any other certificate program. Whether the certificate has value to either the student or prospective employer is a different issue.

This was just advertised in "Website Magazine" last month. Unless someone is wanting to pay a full page colored add and it be fake is probably pretty unlikely, but stranger things have happened.

Full Sail University offer a BA and Masters in Internet Marketing that you can take online. With the course it includes a MAC Book and all the programs you will need in the class. It a fast based course....considered 4 years in 2 years and cost about 57k without any grants....you can get a pail grant and student loans though.

Do some thorough research on this site. It is called "University of San Francisco Online".
It is based in Florida, The address is Florida as well as their phone number.
I would call the real USF and ask them if they are actually affiliated with and endorse the website.

It is... If you look at my previous post in this thread I gave a link from the official USF site that endorses and links to this site. It's very common for universities to offer on and offline certificate programs.

The site is not a fraud, although the premise that it's a valuable certification may be false.

The question is not whether this is a real college (it is, USF is a great school). The question is whether ANY degree will give you value in this day and age, especially one relating to Internet Marketing.

If you REALLY want to learn the business end of interactive advertising, you would be better getting an entry level job at an agency/network like Advertising.com, DoubleClick, or Ogilvy-Mather.

That way, you get practical hands-on experience, make real-world contacts, and actually get a paycheck (albeit small).

Yes, Jonathan. I highly AGREE! I was in a store the other day watching a guy selling these electronic cigarettes to the cashiers and getting them to like them so he could sell them to the owner for his customers (we just got the law of no public smoking in Michigan, so pretty much, no one can smoke in bars, which I think is pretty stupid since I really wouldn't want them smoking anywhere else -- doesn't make sense at all -- but whatever).

Nonetheless, I had thought I recognized the guy. And it turns out he was a customer at a store I worked at before I started doing online marketing full time. I asked him how he got into selling those electronic cigarettes (which are really cool and beneficial on MANY levels btw) and he said...

"Well, this was a pretty big investment for me, but, I got laid off from where I worked. I'm a 54 year old white male with a degree and nobody would hire me for a year and a half, so decided I had to do something, and now I'm doing pretty well. Just this week I got these into 10 new stores ." (He said it with a much bigger smile than that, and I was very proud of him and my country once again )

I hope that this reply hits the heart of Americans and those oversees where I can only reach through the power of the Internet why it's so important to be in control of your own business

Most Universities run short full fee courses through their commercial arms every day. No they don't usually offer grants for such courses.
