The Hardest Part of Working for Myself Is...

This is very lame to admit. And sort of a dumb topic. But its truly plaguing me.

But I cannot wake up as early as I'd like.

Does anyone else suffer from this problem?

I set my alarm clock to go off at 7:30am every morning (the same as I used to set it when working full time).

The alarm clock is in the hall so I need to get out of bed to switch it off. My wife gets up about a half hour before I do so her bumbling around keeps me awake until the caffeine kicks in

The shower is a very effective way of waking me up - especially if it's not too hot

If you are not leaping out of bed early and excited at the prospect of another day then maybe you should switch jobs. 1 life - live it

        This is a good point.

But I'm sure this isn't logical for you so.. Have you tried getting to bed earlier? Figure out the reasons you're tired in the morning. Perhaps much of your night is spent with restless sleep. Are the conditions in the room right for your sleeping needs? How about your mattress?

Not a problem for me. We have a lovely Irish Setter, Rose and a cute English Springer Spaniel. They get up at first light which means we do too.

In the winter that's around 7:00 AM. In the summer it's 5:00 AM.

I think the hardest part about working for myself is having to pull inspiration out of nowhere. Unless you have a completely automated business, once you stop working that's about it - you don't earn income. When bills pile up that can be a struggle sometimes.

I normally start working online around 4:30 am, but I'm one of those who does't require 8 hours of sleep - I get around 7 usually.

Early morning is the best time for me to be productive!

      Rock on girl!!!!

That's me. Not to mention the kids gotta get to school.

But, It is just in me. I love what I do and I enjoy waking up early and getting a fresh start. I do sleep in on the weekends maybe till 8.

But I feel like I am wasting the day. Even if I am caught up with work I will take the extra time and incorporate it with the family.

Any hour within the 24 hours can be used as work time for me, sometimes I'll start working at 4:30 am and sometimes I'll work at 10 pm, that is the beauty of working for yourself!

I have the same problem. I need to force myself up. Today I woke up at 7 - a good hour and a half earlier than usual. I exercises for about 50 minutes and then had breakfast. Started the day off well!

I'm a night person so I tend to work my best late in the day into the early hours. Therefore I often don't finish until 3am so usually don't get up until 9.30m or 10am. Just the way I work best!!

Why the need to get up early if you don't have a job with fixed hours? It really doesn't matter what time of day you do the work.

These are two good points that, when combined, sort of give my take on the question.

As long as you get out of bed, looking forward to working on your business, then it doesn't matter what time it is. (This assumes that you also are allowing time for the rest of your daily commitments!)

Being your own boss and working from home allows you the flexibility to wake when you need to, not when someone else dictates. Whether you wake up juiced enough is down to your level of motivation for your business.

How much sleep do you truly need to get each night? Not how much would you like, how much you can get by on but how much does your body really need? I've found that when I set my alarm for how much sleep my body needs, it is much easier to get up in the morning. I also force myself to turn off the computer at least an hour before I go to bed. When I work right up until my "bedtime" I tend to toss and turn and wake up a lot. When I relax first I can sleep through the night no problem.

I need lots of sleep. lol

I have a child that needs a ride to the bus stop, two dogs to greet, and a husband who wants to know where his blue shirt is.

If it wasn't for these people and pets, I would wake up around mid-morning and be online until all hours of the evening.

It helps me to write my plans down for the day. Then I check it off as I go along.

Well, let's see, since I'm an Old Geezer, the "Experts" (drips under pressure) say I don't need as much sleep. Then they give me medicine to help me sleep. Then they give me another medicine to make me be perky when I wake up. Sheesh can't these guys make up their mind.

My feeling, if I sleep in is I'm "Burning Daylight", also many years in Marine Corps have a lot to do with me getting up when the alarm goes off. A good long brisk walk, about 3 miles gets me raring to go (for the oxygen tank). Once oxygen level restored then I'm able to drink my coffee and then start work. My wife does a pretty good job of spending any money I make so that keeps me motivated.

But I love the working for myself and my wife's wallet. (Don't tell her I said that). Otherwise I won't be able to type anymore.

Oilman go back to bed. :p
