I am seriously doubting the accuracy of keyword research tools.

INTERNET MARKETING

I found a keyword phrase related to my niche that has almost no competition and is searched 1700 times per day according to wordtracker. I quickly got my site ranking in the number 2 slot on google for the phrase 2 days ago and guess what? Not 1 visitor from that keyword phrase.

This makes me seriously doubt the accuracy of some keyword tools. What do you think?

  Yeah, nothing is 100% accurate even Google, Nichebot is not bad though you can configure it differently according to your specific needs (from where it gets the info, what kind of filtering you need etc)

  I usually run a cross reference between google keyword tool, keyword discovery and keyword elite....that helps weed them out and helps to narrow in on the good ones. A lot of times you will find inaccuracies especially with Google.
  
  But when you run it through 3-4 tools you can get a clearer pic on true stats.

  Are you sure about this? the actual google keywords tool doesn't give daily search volume (only monthly), and it doesn't give a hard # for competing sites- only a generic "high/medium/low" type of rating based on the adwords competition.

I think, in some cases, the keyword tools are not accurate due to the way they collect data. A simple proof is this : in some tools I had no results for a particular keyphrase, while in others I got plenty.

  I haven't used a single keyword tool that was 100% accurate. They give you an idea, sure, but I still believe its important to play around with the market.

They aren't accurate. The best thing to do is to cross check it with sites like "compete.com" to get more accurate results.

Does this surprise you

I have setup many times in niches for certain keywords with almost zero traffic and those pages get lots of traffic alot more than what the keyword tools let on to have

everything is about testing, and more testing you do the more you get pleasantly surprised
