Video Marketers Do NOT FOCUS Exclusively on YouTube

One of the biggest mistakes I see newbie Video Marketers making is that they focus their video marketing exclusively on YouTube.

Yes YouTube is the 800 pound Gorilla, and yes it receives the lions share of the traffic but other sites such as Metacafe, Viddler, Dailymotion and Break can still drive considerable laser targeted traffic to your site.

Consider the screenshot below for my video for the keyword phrase 'john mcenroe tennis tantrums'. Notice that the same video posted to YouTube, Break and DailyMotion are all appearing in the #1 position in Google for that term.

No this is not simply a case of upload the video and they get #1 position... my point here is simply this... NEVER focus exclusively on YouTube..

Yes its the most important site, but go the extra mile and you will boost your traffic potential.

Remember your competition are lazy, you take the road less traveled and you will get to your destination long before the others.

Also take a look at niche how to video sites such as videojug, seriously untapped markets there....

Yes youtube works great, but I have had GREATER success using kewego.com
Well that was back a few months ago. I was using them to promote new Clickbank
products that had just launched. Made a few sales here and there. I might get back into video marketing, not sure really.

I totally agree Anthony, that is a great site. I think video marketing is the true way to passive income online, because its set and forget advertising.

    Sales on autopilot

dailymotion tends to get me good rankings, but I use Traffic Geyser to blast out the videos to ALL the main sites including YouTube

The good thing about traffic geyser is the ability to use multiple accounts and set the time delay so that you videos are fed to the various video sharing sites in a natural way.... it is a good service, albeit expensive...

I have personal software that can take one PowerPoint presentation and make 1,000 new ones all based on the keyword within seconds.

then I can convert them into videos within minutes.

if I want to upload 1,000's of videos how much would Traffic Geyser cost?
    Is it unlimited?

    Regards,

    Hey Mike,

Sound like cool piece of software... Traffic Geyser charge different prices based on different quantities.... i think for 47$ per month you'd get 1,000 vids out.... something like that

True for rankings, but checking out the views...YouTube makes up 2 of the videos shown when I do a search for 'john mcenroe tennis tantrums,'

    YouTube Video #1: 33,000+ views
    YouTube Video #2: 830,000+ views
    DailyMotion Video: 2K views
ClipMoon Video (this appeared in my search): 61 views
    Break Video: 2477 views

So the YouTube videos have received ~860,000+ views, while the others have received maybe 5,000.

I know others can help you rank but at the end of the day, where are people going to actually view your video...in this case, it's YouTube by a loooooong shot.

      I agree with Michael.

And will go even further to say this is NOT one of the biggest mistakes you can make for marketing videos.

One of the biggest mistakes for marketing videos is ignoring Youtube.

I am not saying other video sites are not helpful, but you can get away without using them at all and still be a successful video marketer if you just use Youtube. I have over 200 videos hosted on youtube, and about.... let me see... a handful or so everywhere else.

That's a good observation, however, if we are comparing views there are other things to keep in mind:

There was some linkbuilding done to those YouTube videos (the first one seems to have 30 backlinks), and not to Dailymotion and Break video. YouTube videos get Google traffic for other search phrases as well (link building has something to do with it as well).

The search result shape influences the clicks as well. People might (and I think they are) clicking YouTube because they're familiar with the site, but the fact that the first block of 4 videos (5 with this phrase: john mcenroe tantrums - Google Search ) increases the clicks. In other words, when they see the first 4-5 results are the same, they just click on the first one. The percentage of people looking for the alternative is smaller because of that big block in front of their eyes.

You might say I'm guessing here, but it's a proven fact that if you have a front page double listing (results 1 and 2) you get more clicks than results 1 and 2 which go to different sites. Similar tests were done with Adwords: if you start bidding on Adwords and get the first paid SE result, and your organic result is 1-st as well: your organic result suddenly get more traffic than without bidding.

Another plus for YouTube videos is that they will work on iPads, iPhones and other similar devices. A lot of other sites still rely on Flash players for their videos. Not a huge issue, but the more people there are using these devices, the more worthwhile it will be to have videos that can be viewed on them.

Guys Im not saying ignore YouTube, as per my original post you will get the lion share of your views through YouTube... what Im saying is that if you can use other video sharing sites such as dailymotion, viddler etc.. your thumbnail images will crowd out the competition on the search engines, just like mine have above...

The reason the YouTube views are far higher is because YouTube has the MASSIVE internal community, and the fact many people will click on the YouTube video in the search engines also.

Remember alot of these sites count for quality backlinks also.

Im simply saying do not ignore the other video sharing sites, that they can be effective for dominating a search engine positon.

    Hey Mao,

thats a good point that you make, but the stats dont lie, Youtube is king, either way. The advantage of submitting to some of the other sites is that the niche your targetting may not have much videos in that category which would help getting it viewed from the sites.

But dont forget, once the video has finished, you need to direct the viewer to your website. That is what is most important.

If you look at this screen shot you'll see the point is: those videos rank on Google, so they get traffic from Google. Getting extra traffic from the video sites is a bonus, but the point is they get traffic from Google.

Mao, that's a great picture. Can I borrow it to promote and explain my video uploader?
    Mine is not as good.
