How to record a phone call interview?

Hi, I am looking into interviewing website owners for a project I am working on but I would like to record the conversations to mp3. Any ideas on an easy way to do this? Is there something I can plug in my phone to record to computer? It must be simple, you can hear interview everywhere. Thanks

Hook this up from your telephone to the your mic jack on your computer.

I use Skype and Skype Recorder -http://www.ecamm.com/mac/callrecorder/- it's a great setup.

Skype's free if you're calling another Skype user, and Skype Recorder is well worth the tiny fee. It's a Mac program, but I'm sure there are similar programs for the PC.

We've been using Pamela with Skype for a number of interviews. Get the paid version of Pamela (it's quite cheap) and you get all the services.

I also use Skype with Audio Hijack (on a mac). I started using the telephone and the radio shack recorder but Skype is much easier and the audio quality is much better.

Skype + Callgraph is a superb combination for Windoze.

I second John Taylor's Callgraph. It's totally free for use with Skype and does a good job recording the call behind the scenes.

If you are looking for a good digital inline recorder, take a look at this:
Telephone line recorder SD Secure Digital Call Recorder

Radio Shack sells a decent "tape based" inline recorder...you then just have to transfer the tape into the computer via the mic in port...but be careful to turn the volume down before recording.

Hey thanks for all the tips guys. Looks like Skype is the answer. I have not had good success with skype - likely because I am on a 2 way satellite for my internet and there is a bit of a delay every time you speak. I'll check out some of those other options. I figured there would have to be something you could just plug in your jack and record.

                  Brian,

Never saw that Grand Central - thanks.

I have been using Free Conference Calling: Conference Call Services Free from BV FreeConferencing for several years. 100% free for up to 250 people on one line (for teleseminars).

It records as an MP3 and is ready for download within 5 minutes of your call ending.

Quality is not bad. Only dropped a call on me once (in well over three dozen interviews).

And the best part? No hardware to hook up!

I don't kno if it works with Skype (never tried it) but works with a land line, cell phone and IP phone.

                  Mike

                        Hi Mike,

Don't think so. I've used them in the past and had just ramped up for another series when the website became inoperable. All requests for tech and/or cs went unresponded to. Several other marketers confirmed their closure. Even as of today, as I still have an open account, when someone attempts to join a conference call, they are greeted with "invalid option" and denied access.

So, for now, you may be able to use them, but I haven't found anyone that can.

Thanks for your input and help.
