20% Commission on $2,000 product!

20% commission on a product that's around the $2,000 mark is the most I can earn off one sale for a certain merchants affiliate program that I promote.

Before you ask I'm not about to tell you what it is apart from that it's a physical product and not a digital download or course, we're not talking something that doesn't sell or wouldn't be bought online either.

I'll be totally up front and say that I haven't actually made that sale yet. I have made regular 20% commissions on products up to about $400 from that merchant though and I'm working on getting a little higher on the first page for the top products keywords so hopefully that sale and more should happen soon?

I've seen a few threads recently where people are asking about why promote affiliate products and I think it's perhaps because they see so many with commissions of only maybe 5% on low ticket items?

There are some real gems out there if you just have a good look around.

Oh, and with that merchant when someone buys through my link they get "matched" to my account so when they come back and buy again which they will need to do with this product, then I get the commission for all future sales as well.

So don't underestimate just how good some merchants affiliate programs can be, you just need to dig around until you find them,

There are tons of products in the $2000 - $100,000
range that pay 50% commission. I even started a
group on FaceBook where I announce them.

Most of those products are digital though.

        Thanks for the comment Willie!

It's just a shame that some people get the "blinkers" on and think that it's not worth looking at affiliate marketing when there are so many different affiliate programs to promote.

You can make a good income with both the high and low priced products, but you have to have your strategy sorted and know how you want to achieve it,

That's kinda the same thing that was going through my mind when I first saw this thread. I especially like the affiliate programs that are recurring and payout a couple 100 every month.

There are many good and high paying affiliate offers out there. But then again, just because you make sales for someone, doesn't neccessarily mean you'll get paid or get paid on time. I've had to chase down a few of my payments in the past.

I've had the same experience. It's often a cashflow issue. They
aren't getting paid in a timely fashion, making if a challenge for
them to pay in a timely fashion. "Cashflow is king" and kills many
        online businesses!

I have one friend who was owned about $20,000 in commissions,
and they were over a month late in paying him. He solved the
problem by running an AdWords campaign saying "Don't deal
with Marketer X... he won't pay you. As soon as the campaign
        started, he was paid

I don't know about you but I've seen plenty of product in all
price ranges paying as high as 100% commission..

Moreover, most low ticket products never pay less than 50%

You must be referring to IM products mainly because if you go to a lot of the networks like CJ, Affiliate Window and many more you'll find that 5% is very common in a lot of markets, why are people so hung up on sticking to the IM niche?

There is lots more out there and those new to this might just find it a bit easier?

That is the point of this thread,

Willie - that was a response to Igor who seemed to doubt the 5% commissions that are quite common in a lot of sectors such as fashion, tools and many more.

Quite often although commissions are low you will get a high basket price or multiple purchases, admittedly a lot more work than 50% on a $100k product but if it was that easy we'd all be rich overnight?

          I'd best keep on learning!

          regards,

It's a very competitive niche where many of your potential

so not the best niche to be in

There are some high paying products, but it's not easy to find some that sell. One of the downsides of clickbank et.al...the payouts are really only peanuts. I tried multiple times w/ hosting affiliates programs which pay like $100+/signup..but not with much success.

As far as offline sales go, I have had trouble convincing anyone to agree to a 20%+ commission. The general argument is that the average finder's fee is in the realm of 10% (and tends to be even smaller for major transactions, such as real estate acquisitions, where 10% can easily constitute a million or more).

This also applies to sales of services rather than physical goods; while the cost of raw materials is not an issue, there are usually people whose profit margins are included in the price. In other words, just because you're selling a $100,000 service doesn't mean that it's all profit; on top of the vendor's cut, it's not uncommon to discover that there are actually the margins of several people/institutions included in that price.

Additionally, keep in mind that really high-ticket items are also impossible to sell without vendor's participation; in other words, it's not as simple as getting someone to the vendor's page with your affiliate link and letting them check out via PayPal. More often than not, the vendor will need to become involved by answering the prospect's questions and generally working with them to complete the acquisition. On top of that, it is not uncommon for lawyers to become involved in transactions of this magnitude, meaning that it can often take weeks for a deal to be finalized after the prospect is referred.

As a result, since the vendor still feels like he's the one doing the selling and you're the one simply bringing the client, paying you more than the finder's fee is not warranted.

      OK,

So why not settle with 10% or $100k.

Although I can point you to people that will
pay you as high as 50%.

I never refused settling for 10% of that amount. I was simply pointing out that, offline at least, I've seen a lot of cases where 50% affiliate commissions are impossible - not only because the amount would be too insane to justify a finder's fee, but also because the resulting margin would be unacceptably low. E.g., if you buy real estate for $500,000, and later sell it for $750,000, you'd be hard-pressed to find someone willing to pay the 10% fee of the $750,000 amount - because it's basically wiping out 30% of your gross profit, not to mention the taxes, associated legal expenses, etc.
