How Do I Determine Affiliate Commission Percentage?

Is there a standard rule-of-thumb for merchants on how to determine affiliate commission percentages? I really have no frame of reference for this.

Thanks,

Jake

Whatever you do, I would recommend not really going lower than 50%....sounds like alot, but, you'll find people who even go as high as 75-90%....

On clickbank it really seems to be 75% mostly... at least for a $30-97 ebook type product... but it depends on the price of your item - if it is more then perhaps it can be less - if the $$ the affiliate receives is still good (over $20)... all of this is debatable though as it depends on many factors, but be generous to your affiliates and aim big to take a smaller slice of a muc bigger pie would be my advice.

Thanks! See, I never would have thought it would be that high, but it makes sense. I wonder why the merchants I am affiliated with only offer like 10 or 15 percent. Oh well. I'm going to make mine 50-75. My most expensive product, currently, is only $7.00.

      Cheers!

Are the merchants you are affiliated with offering a physical Product?
If so that would explain the lower commissions. On a digital product like an eBook there is not much in the way of costs besides the initial time invested to create it where as with a book on amazon there are hard costs involved in printing the book and shipping it.

Do you need affiliates... offer a high percentage.

Don't need affiliates... offer a lower percentage.

Offering 75% is a good place to start for a digital product to get the ball rolling. Then adjust accordingly.

Also, offering 50% for something like 10 sales a month and offering 75% for those making more than 10 sales a month is also an option. Weed out the poor performing affiliates and reward the good ones. It's also an additional incentive for people to want to sell more of your product.
