sure..it allows you to set up your own affiliate program...Having your own affiliate program will allow you to get hundreds or thousands of affiliates promoting your product or
website...and the best thing? You don't have to pay them until
    they make a sale...

Having your own affiliate program will allow you to find super affiliates and joint venture partners willing to promote your product and ebook and drive targeted traffic to your website...

These super affiliates by just sending one email can make
you grow your online business very fast....without having your own product or ebook it would be very difficult for you to convince these super affiliates drive traffic to your website...

So you should start creating your own product today...

it's the quickest way to fill your PayPal account but only work it if you can create products that last years and can be leveraged in the future.

It's definatley a very very good way to make money! And get it relatively quickly (no waiting for the 5 payments you need for Clickbank to send a check etc).

Agree. If its long term revenue that you are looking for, you need have quality products that last long (which rarely happens coz IM world is so fast changing)

It IS the way, but make absolutely certain
the your create something that the market
wants. I see far too many people create
products that never sell well because they
create something that the market simply
    doesn't want.

That's really the hard part of the equation...
    IMHO.

Willie speaks from experience, after the dismal of his step-by-step nostril hair trimming guide. He was sure everyone would flock to buy it, especially with all the beautiful up-nostril pictures. Alas, it was not to be. If you do a reverse popularity search on CB, you can find it at number one - right next to Paul Myers' guide for rednecks and table manners.

If you create truly useful and good info products, you build a reputation. Then, it becomes easier and easier to sell future info products of your own. However, always maintain the quality.

And you mean what by this statement? I think Kevin has tested everything concerning his product creation. I don't think you realize. Maybe you should find out who is who on this forum before you start making statements like this.

            No testing necessary...

Would you rather be an affiliate for a Clickbank product where the only way you get paid is when someone buys the product through YOUR affiliate link?

Or would you rather be the products creator/owner who gets paid for every sale regardless of which link was clicked?

It seems that most warriors consider this option one of the best to make money online. I agree with them. However, I wouldn't recommend you to create your own products before you reach some success as an affiliate.

If you don't know how to promote a product that you already know that's good and sell (there are many out there), why would you be able to promote your own product? Also, getting affiliates is not an easy task. People have so many products to choose, so why would they choose yours? If you are not an experienced marketer, it won't be easy to give your product a good exposure.

Becoming an advertiser/product owner is the next stage, first you need to learn how to become a good affiliate. This is my opinion. Until this moment, I have created 3 WSOs, and 2 of them also have their own website/sales page and are promoted by affiliates through email marketing. So what I say is based on my own experience.

Having your own products gives you certain advantages in terms
      of positioning and leverage.

Product creation is a good exercise. You wouldn't expect to master
any skill the first time you gave it a go, but with practice anybody
      will improve.

It's also important, if undertaking a major project, to make sure there
is a good market for it you can reach and compete in.

That said, there's a lot to be said for just doin' it so so you some
chops in info-product creation. Your first efforts probably won't
be grand slams, but in selling them you'll get valuable feedback
from the marketplace that will help you make more informed choices
      in the future.

As in most areas of business, and life, discernment comes from
experience and education. As your own develops you'll perceive
opportunities you did not see before and also, due to your experience,
have the skills and confidence to exploit those opportunities.

The problem with creating info products is that you first need to determine if there is a need. If you have some earth shaking information to provide that is great. But, the last thing anyone needs is a lot of rehashed worn out information that can be gleaned from the Internet.

Product creation can be a two edged sword. It brings a lot of rewards if it is quality creation but can cause you heart ache if you spend your precious time on something that turns out to be a dud. Alot of the products I see are re-done- recreated from something old. build a better mousetrap, create a killer app for the IPOD, Iphone or computer. Tell people how to get the Law of Attraction to work for them immediately, then your creating will not be in vain.

Having your own product gives you control. If you are purely selling affiliate products, you are under the control of the product vendors.

Actually I don't completely agree. Product creation is an excellent thing. There is no subject new under the sun. There have been products created for everything. Just because someone has written an ebook on something in the IM niche, doesn't mean someone else can't write a valuable ebook on the same subject with a different take on it. I might not like your style but enjoy reading someone elses style on the same subject.

Info product is really a broad term.

    Info (information) can be anything.

What about an info-product on how to cure cancer and aids? Or, an info-product on how built UFOs?

The point is -- there's a lot of process, research of the content, and market research involved.

You need to narrow it down and target specific market with a need who are willing to buy.

As Eben Pagan says in one of his video -- know the difference between "suggestion" and "solution" when you create one.

I would think one should creat their own product after having a go at being an affiliate. That way you get a better understanding of how things work.
Plus its easier to promote other peoples products for over 50% commission.

One quetion for you, how long have you been involved in IM?

IMO it's only worth it if you actually KNOW about the subject in depth and have practical experience.

There is far too much re-hashed $17 crap out there and it gives those of us who sell decent products a bad name.

Creating a business that fulfills an unmet need or desire in an identifiable and reachable group is the way...

Information is definitely a great business because...

      1. Increasingly we see information, knowledge, experience as the new currency in today's society, so it stands to reason that offering people information is certainly in demand

      2. The barrier to entry into the business is extremely low. It is fast to test or put together a product, it is often inexpensive given how accessible technology is to anyone at home these days (computers, software, internet connection are about all you need).

      3. The internet means that marketing and distribution of information products is extremely low cost which means as long as you understand the key to increasing the value associated with your infoproduct, your profits can be massive

      4. Partnership models and tracking...one of the excellent aspects of running a business on the internet selling a product of your own is that you can easily (with a Clickbank account for example) offer major authority players in your market the ability to promote your product in return for a share of the profits. This is powerful - you leverage existing internet marketing power & build an army of sales people virtually working for you

      5. Sky is the limit...my favorite part of being in the information product business is that each product brings customers who will actually TELL YOU what additional products and services they need or want.

I started out selling 1 ebook, after getting many of the same questions I wrote a second and conducted a series of audio interview which became a $97 course - after getting requests for ongoing help I started a membership site and then a 1:1 and group coaching program - suddenly you can have multiple products ranging from $27 ebooks to $10K coaching programs - pretty awesome!

All of that said, you MUST pay attention to some very strict rules:

      1. You MUST understand your market & know what they want
      2. You MUST test or research that they are willing to pay for your solution
      3. You MUST offer information that gets results NOT just general information or you will not make very much money
      4. You MUST commit to learn the principles of marketing - that will help understand how to pick your markets, choose your topics, construct your value proposition and get your word out to the market better than your competition
      5. You MUST have the passion, marketing mindset and self-confidence to consistently try new things and redirect until you hit success

For me, there is no EASY way to make money, but what is great about infoproducts is that when you get it right, they will sell for months and years into the future - so you leverage weeks of your time now for years of profit.

    truesouth,

Here is a link to a short 29 page report called Before You Buy Anything.

    http://www.angelfire.com/biz/gjbiz/byba2010a.pdf

Go to page 13 and you will see my "escalator" of information products. It goes from simple to more complicated but it can be built as quickly as you want it to be.

INFORMATION is the greatest product there is, IF you do it right from the beginning.

Re read Jeff Smith's post, he gives you some great advice. Here is the ONE thing you should take away from your question and the answers.

There is and always will be a strong DEMAND for information. Once you become the SUPPLY you'll never look back.

Something else to think about - once you have your own infoproduct and have some initial momentum, your product "brands" you an expert in your field which suddenly makes you more credible as someone who recommends other products (in other words, affiliate marketing becomes easier) and new revenue opportuntiies emerge such as offering ongoing subscription services, consulting services, seminars, etc...

Having your own product (assuming you do a good job of getting your market's attention & have a decent product) is a great catalyst to opening new opportunities and profit.
