My PayPal Account Has Been Frozen

In march i received warning my account could be frozen if i did not produce certain forms of ID and i knew i could not produce them.

Its for the Aussie Anti Money Laundering check or similar. When i received a transaction the other day i must have hit the limit and it happened at the worse time. I have about 1600 dollars in my account mostly from freelancing or ebay entreprenurial buying and selling. The id they want is a drivers license(i have) or passport(out of date so have to use drivers).

The second piece of information is a document from the australian tax office or water/electricity bill with my name and home address on it. The problem lies in the fact i live slightly out of the suburbs so i am forced to have a PO Box and all mail must go to that. So my options are just about nothing. And its not my house so the bills go to someone else.

Has anyone dealt with paypal over the phone? i highly doubt any flexibility on the rule as it is to help them abide by the law.

    The mail will still go to your PO box but it will also show your street address. I have the same problem sometimes and this works for me.

    Well, I would certainly try calling them. I'm sure a lot of paypal users live in houses where other people get the utility bills. I know I do. Never been asked for one though. Have the homeowner type you up a lease agreement if you don't already have one and see if you can give them that. Call them
  • You should have a rental invoice, notice etc that should state your physical address. Even an electoral form. You are filling out an Australian form and it just sounds like a standard 100 point ID check. You'll be right - just call them and let them know what you have.
  • I've had great responses with any and all issues over the phone. It's hard to get anywhere with their tickets/email etc, but when you phone them their reps really do their best to help you, they want your business they are just doing these things to protect the people from harm really.

  • Your electricity bill should still have the physical address written on it somewhere as well as your mailing address so you should be able to provide that.
  • Alright thanks for all the help everyone, after discussing with them over the phone they will accept a birth certificate as Photo ID and I can use my Drivers License as Proof of Address.

  • yup, don't worry about it. I've encountered this before and it's isn't a big problem.
  • Been through this when a douchebag hacked my account and bought a laptop.

    I went to paypalsucks.com, found the best phone number to use, called them up and got it straightened out. No sucking at all there.
  • You can give them a call but you'd still need to provide the documents. It's happened to me before. They limited access to my account and required to submit a document with my name and address on it. Try your electricity bill, phone bill or so.

    • Stay calm, just give them a call and provide the documents you can provide.
      If its legit, they will perceive it as legit. Its just a checkpoint almost everyone must pass some day.
