Giveaway of the day software?

I noticed a few people posting threads about free software on the Giveaway of the day site.

I just noticed that the same site is trying to give away my software when they have no rights to it.

Luckily, my software needs verification after it is installed.

Heck, one software product has a link to the help documentation rather then the software download.

That is very bad Thomas. I follow GAOTD site and sometimes, i also download some of their 'free' software. I did not know they give away some software that they do not have rights.

Have you talked to them yet?

Wow, what is your software? If they start distributing without a code, customers are going to be unhappy and this could damage your brand. I would take action against them.

I don't think they aware of this as they normally get the software from the vendor. You should contact them - on the positive side you could get some business from this

Actually, it was three different software programs.

One of the links don't work anymore.
The second is a free version I give away on download sites.
The third program link goes to my help documentation. lol

Either way, I never submitted any of them to that site. I just wanted people to beware about downloading software from that site. Heck, if you are a software seller, check to see if your product is on that site as well.

The Giveaway of the day site is absolutely fantastic.

Have been a member for a while and have discovered some great gems of offers!

Dissapointing to hear they are offering software without permission. Keep in mind, generally the free offers only last 24 hrs, after that payment frm the vendor for the software is required.

Did someone else submit details of your product to them perhaps? (Just a thought)

Personally I've never had any issues at all with this site. Overall gets a 9/10 from me

What is the title of your software and when was is on giveawayoftheday.com? Are you sure it was that site and not a competitor.

With verification needed I would think the forum comments would have ripped GOTD apart for invalid software.

The site gives the homepage of the the software they offer, so tracking theft should be easy enough.

They are linking to my sites. I doubt it was a competitor. I am thinking they are scanning software download sites and adding it to their site.

I would bet they are targeting particular keywords even though those keywords are not necessarily free. I know I have security in place that would need to be cracked if they offered it for free.

One listing has a link to my help documentation rather then the software.

        Hi Thomas,

Yes -- they most likely scanned download sites, or if you did any of the traditional promotion, you may have promoted it there yourself... but one thing... you are complaining about *having* extra links to your site?

Not complaining at all since I have a mechanism to make sure I get paid. It is misleading since I have a free trial and the people that download it will not get their free copy.

Thomas, I think I downloaded one of your free softwares from that site.

What I don't understand is why after 15 minutes you haven't honored my request for a refund of the full price.

            No soup for you today...:p

giving away someone's software for free is a bad way of damaging someone's reputations...unless with consent, good thing for the verification thingy...

Again, what is the name of your software and when was it offered. They have a record of all offered software.

Was it actually giveawayoftheday.com? I have a hard time with the forum there not catching problems. It is very vocal and even rates answers and sofware offered.

NO software is offered that cannot be accessed and used. The forum also would give GOTD a bad time if they did.

I would hate this thread to be about another site. I really like and appreciate the WORKING offerings from them.

I get their emails. Whenever there is something I may be interested in, I always read the 'reviews' first. Hopefully information would be posted there about software problems.

And often the reviews point me to other, ostensibly better software.

    Thomas,
Have you used any PAD file submitter in the past?

Their site must be included in some PAD submitters...

I don't know, but it doesn't fit the profile of their site to scrape and include programs randomly, I believe there must be some other explanation. I had some communication with them once, and they surely didn't come across as pirates. That's just my impression though.

I never submitted Tiger Foreclosures 2.0 otherwise I would have thought the same thing. The only way they could have got that product was off a fan page I created on Facebook. Heck, they got the link wrong on that. hehe

Still, one program was never free and was never advertised as free.

OK, thanks for the links. It is strange how they are linked.
I wonder what it is. One of your links is to a PPC Adsense link page.
The other two are to pages that offer a download.
Also, if you do a search for almost any software, i.e. microsoft windows or Adobe they available for download also.

Is this some sort of adwords/adsense linking scheme.

I agree that it's not reputable for this website to give away software(s) that they do not own or do not have rights on.

Good thing you've observed this so they would also be noted once you report this issue with them.

I tried this and Avast said the link had sent me to an attack site. Something funny going on with GOTD.

On the front door GOTD is offering a free commerical software that IS a gift of the creator of each offering. Often you have to go to the creators site to get the password/unlock key.

On the back-end, SEARCH for software, it seems very strange what they are doing. It is as if they have scraper software going across the internet getting offerings from various places.

If they are offering other's software, I would think a memo to their ISP could get them shut down.

I am kind of thinking the same thing. I have a feeling they are using the software names to get traffic from the search engines.

They wouldn't be able to give away two of those programs because they have security or a activation code in place. So why not scrape the software sites and load it up to try and get traffic from people searching on the software names.

I would put money that they have it automated.

Seems strange to do that as well as have a legitimate giveaway.
