Need help with flipping page swf

by paulmackie 14 replies
Hi Everyone,
I am trying to get a flipping page book on my webpage, but for some reason cannot get the SWF to view on my webpage?

Here is the flipping page book (click top right corner to view):
http://www.storybooksthatteach.com/samplebook/demo.swf
which seems to work fine, but the video does not show on my test index page at:
Child Development Books for preschool child-storybooks That Teach (second text box from top-white space)

I am using this code:
<object classid="clsid27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000" codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=6,0,29,0" width="400" height="250">
<param name="movie" value="http://www.storybooksthatteach.com/samplestory/demo.swf">
<param name="quality" value="high">
<embed src="http://www.storybooksthatteach.com/samplestory/demo.swf" quality="high" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="400" height="250"></embed>
</object>

I also tried using the embed SWF media here:
Embedded Media HTML Generator
but had the same result. no SWF video visable on my html page.

Has anybody any insight as to what is going wrong. I am using a config.xml, demo.fla and demo.swf in the demo video folder and just adding the above embed media code to my webpage.

Any help appreciated.

Paul.

        I had a re-look at your source code the script you have above should be in a separate javascript file. which you call upon by using this script in the pages source code.
        <p><script src="http://www.yoursite.com/samplebook/demo.js" type="text/javascript"></script></p>

        Also do you have more files associated with this script, it seems something is missing.

          Hi Email,
          I have two seperate sample folders that came with the flipping page script.

          One is an HTML page for the flipping page with a popup (which I do not need) and the other is just the flipping page video with a "buy product redirect, which is what I am trying to achieve, but is not in an HTML page.

          The HTML folder has an image folder, a config.xml, index.html, and two flash swf and flash documents

          The buy product folder has a config.xml (same as HTML folder), images and two flash swf and flash documents.

          I have Emailed for support from the people who I got the flip code from, but they are not living up to their promise to reply within 24hrs-4 days later, still no reply.

          Anyway, I am struggling to incorporate the flipping page that does work, but not in my index.html page.

          Thanks for your reply.

          Paul.

            Hi Everyone,
            I uploaded the HTML sample popup here:
            FlippingBook Flash Component Demo

            It works ok, but I need the demo.swf which also works, but is not in an HTML page.

            Thanks again for any help.

              It is a long shot but it may help in my sig is a link for a pdf on peel away ads. It shows you how to edit and set them up. This uses swf so it might help.

              Pm me with the files names if you want, you see with the peel your call to action is the peel.js file.

              It's worth a try...

                  Sorry for the delay i was deep into one of Allen comps yesterday,

                  Try this upload all the files into one sub-directory ie:

                  www.yoursite.com/samplebook/

                  just upload every thing.

                  Now on your main page where you wish this to appear use this.

                  <p><script src="http://www.yoursite.com/samplebook/demo.js" type="text/javascript"></script></p>

                  Change what ever to reflect the url of the java script. This looks like a simular problem i had with a peel away ad the front image is not showing.

                  If you want e-mail me the whole script all files/images and i will get it to work on my site and then give you the details on how to achieve it.

                    Hi Geoff and Mackenzie,
                    Thanks for the reply.

                    I will have to get back to you on Saturday, as I am working away from home for two days.

                    Can you PM me an email address, as I am unsure how, or if I can send an attachment using the forum?

                    Thanks so much for your help.

      Hi Heath and Email,
      Thanks for your replies.
      I have tried using both IE and Firefox, but the book is not showing in my test index page.

      Email: are you saying the http://www.storybooksthatteach.com/samplebook/demo.swf
      is not working either? As it works ok for me, just not in my test page.

      I will check the java script as I am using my sites main index page for the test and not the html page's I got the above script from.

      Thanks again.

        Paul, in your embed code you've got: http://www.storybooksthatteach.com/samplestory/demo.swf

        But it should be:
        http://www.storybooksthatteach.com/samplebook/demo.swf

          Hi Heath,
          A typo on my part.

          This is the code I have on the current page:
          <body>
          <table width="100%" border="0" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0">
          <tr>
          <td align="center" valign="middle">
          <object classid="clsid27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000" codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=6,0,29,0" width="400" height="250">
          <param name="movie" value="http://www.storybooksthatteach.com/samplebook/demo.swf">
          <param name="quality" value="high">
          <embed src="http://www.storybooksthatteach.com/samplebook/demo.swf" quality="high" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="400" height="250"></embed>
          </object>
          </td>
          </tr>
          </table>
          </body>

          I am using frontpage and the object shows up in the design, but not the preview? The video is still not showing; should I be adding the java script in an earlier posting to my test HTML page?

          Thanks for your reply.

        Hi,
        I checked the Java script and this is what I have:

        <title>FlippingBook Flash Component Demo</title>
        <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1">
        <style type="text/css">
        <!--
        body {
        background-color: #333333;
        margin-left: 0px;
        margin-top: 0px;
        margin-right: 0px;
        margin-bottom: 0px;
        }
        -->
        </style>
        <script language="JavaScript" type="text/JavaScript">
        function MM_openBrWindow(theURL,winName,w,h,scrollbars)
        {
        LeftPosition=(screen.width)?(screen.width-w)/2:100;
        TopPosition=(screen.height)?(screen.height-h)/2:100;

        settings='width='+w+',height='+h+',top='+TopPositi on+',left='+LeftPosition+',scrollbars='+scrollbars +',location=no,directories=no,status=0,menubar=no, toolbar=no,resizable=no';
        URL = theURL;
        var popup_window = window.open("", winName, settings);
        popup_window.document.write('<html><head><title>PO PUP</title><meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1">');
        popup_window.document.write('<style type="text/css"><!-- body { margin-left: 0px; margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; } --></style>');
        popup_window.document.write('</head><body>');
        popup_window.document.write('<img src="' + URL + '" width="' + w + '" height="' + h + '">');
        popup_window.document.write('</body></html>');
        }
        </script>

        My guess is I am adding this script to my current test page and changing this:
        <img src="' + URL + '" width="' + w + '" height="' + h + '">'

        I am not familiar with java script, how should the script look to add in the demo.swf.

        Thanks for any help.
