What do we need to know about affiliate marketing?

Hey there,

I would like to ask you on your personal opinion or experience about affiliate marketing. What benefits does it gives you or how does it work? Just the things that requires a "need to know' basis.

Post links on your blogs, I don't care. I just need to acquaint myself with this. I have been hearing good things about this and some says it's really simple but I want to know this from my fellow warriors....

Thanks,

Gwen

That's it's a little harder than lots of people make out but a nice way to make money from home and be your own boss.

    Benefits:

You don't need a product of your own so it's something that anybody with a website can do.

It's easy to get started. You're provided with link codes and in many cases some sort of promotional material or graphics.

You're just a middleman so you don't have to deal with much. You get traffic, traffic follows your links, if you make a sale you get paid.

There are a gazillion affiliate options available to sell just about anything you can think of.

    Negative:

Not sure if there really is a negative side to the affiliate sales model. Until recently I've been 100% affiliate sales based and I don't have any complaints.

It's not as easy as it sounds since you need to bring in traffic that is interested in what you are trying to sell and being able to push that traffic to the sponsor to seal the deal.

You can be passive or aggressive in your sales techniques but you can't rely on tricky crap like disguising adsense ads as links to make a quick buck. Being a good pre-salesman is important.

How do you exactly have a commission? I mean, how will you know that sales gained today was out of your traffic? Are you working alone with affiliate marketing or are you working with another person on the same product?

In most cases your link code will have your affiliate ID. The sponsors tracking software will pick up your ID and you'll be credited if traffic you send makes a purchase.

You should be able to login to an admin area of whatever affiliate program you are using so you can view the stats as well. See how much traffic you are sending, how many sales you've made etc...

Thank you very much for this one.......Well, I must say that it solved my confusion. So that's how it works. That's how they know you made sales.
