this is my first time to buy a website and the owner is now ready to transfer the site to me.

he is asking for my namecheap id but since i dont have one, do i have to register for any namecheap hosting for him to transfer the site to me?

what kind of hosting should i purchase if i need to have one?

    Hi kendimann,

Namecheap.com is a domain registrar who
    also provide hosting.

It sounds like the person you are working
with is trying to transfer the domain to you
first and then will send you the files for
    your site later.

You can sign up for a free account at
    Namecheap.com

Since I have never received a domain on
namecheap I cannot tell you exactly where
    to find your "namecheap ID".

However, it may simply be the username you
create when signing up. Check with the
person transfering the site to you or contact
    a namecheap representative for details.

As far as hosting is concerned...

It will depend greatly on the needs of your
site. If this is an established site you are
receiving which already gets visitors on a
regular basis, you will need to account for
    that with your hosting.

Ask the seller which hosting service they
are currently using and if they would
recommend you use the same or perhaps
they've had problems and will recommend
    a different provider.

Make sure to ask the seller for his or her
thoughts on disk and bandwidth requirements
if the site is getting traffic now.

If it's a new site I would suggest starting
small and scaling up with a flexible hosting
provider such as hostgator, justhost or ipage.

If business grade hosting is what you are
    after, try Allan Says Host4Profits.com
    service.

Yes your namecheap id is what is used to "push" the domain to your account. Basically you create an account there, which is free, and they are able to transfer the ownership of the domain to your account.

You will then need hosting in order to upload the site files and get everything back online. I use and recommend hostgator. However, if your in a pinch, you could ask the seller if they would keep hosting the site for you for a certain amount of time until you get your own hosting.
