How a little monkey helped me to a $17K payday

It should be pretty evident that if you provide people with information they are looking for, whether it be via website content or via a service/product, that you will will have alot of satisfied visitors/customers. So how do you find out what they need/want? Its pretty simple actually, you ask them!

You can create a survey pretty quickly and easily and entice your visitors to complete it by offering a contest or reward for doing so. Its actually pretty easy because many people like filling out surveys to voice their opinions anyways. Not only can you find out what type of things they need but you can also use the survey to get the actual information to pass along as well.

One resource I have used is SurveyMonkey: Free online survey software & questionnaire tool ( not an affiliate link ) They offer a free solution ( as well as a paid one for more in-depth uses ). Using surveys allowed me to build one of my sites up to a true authority site in its niche that was earning me $1k+ a month and allowed me to sell it for almost $17k.

So in short, ask the people what they want and then provide it for them. You will be rewarded for your efforts.

if you dont mind, how do you market this kind of site?

I marketed the site through forum advertising ( in a relevant niche forum ), via yahoo answers and youtube.

As for rewards, I would set up a survey to last about a month and would have them enter their email address as part of the survey if they wanted to be entered into the drawing for a prize. The prize/reward was a physical item relating to my niche that i would send the winner.

I would use the "newsletter" to spread word about the survey. This survey allowed me to save and analyze the answers and export them as well.

At the time of sale, the site was approximately 10 months old.

First off, congratulations. Second, this is a bit of a different way to approach things, but I can see how it would be very effective (and your experience shows that). Just goes to show how some extra effort can go a long way. Thanks for the heads up, definitely going to be trying this out.

sorry for my ignorance but did you use the surveys to improve your site or did you merely used it to increase your web presence to potential users?
    Thanks

I used the surveys for 2 types of information. First I used it to find out what types of info my visitors wanted more of and how i could improve my site. ( then implemented what i learned ). Secondly I asked my visitors to share their knowledge of the niche and used the newly gained info as even more content for the site.

      Does that answer your Q?
