10,000 Posts - A Milestone Or Mindless Drivel?

10,000 posts...I never thought I'd see this day.

A lot has gone down for me since post number 1. My history here
alone has been quite a wild ride.

On my first day I answered 80 members questions.

I was almost run out of town. LOL.

Along the way, I made more mistakes here than most people
can make and still retain membership.

In other words, I was quite a big mouth. I had some very
strong opinions and wasn't afraid to make them public.

I was almost nailed to a cross when I was considering selling
a book on gambling. I now know what the number 3 evil of the
world is behind drugs and Brady Bunch reruns.

I can't even count the number of arguments I've had with other
members on a variety of subjects. Seems that I have some
pretty radical views on several subjects related to marketing.

I've made some friends here. I've probably made a lot more
enemies. I can be very opinionated and can become
extremely defensive when attacked. I don't play well with
others, as I am sure you've seen.

I guess what I am trying to say is that I have my faults...plenty
of them. I'm not even going to try to deny them. Several of
my supporters have felt that others have taken pot shots at
me. Well, in many cases, it was deserved.

In either case, I'm a big boy. I can take it. If I can't, then I
have no business being in such a public forum with such a
large member base filled with so many knowledgeable
people who I really look up to...some of whom have been
my biggest critics.

My list of Warriors who I would listen to over myself in a
heartbeat?

Paul Myers
Allen Says
John Taylor
Andy Henry
Bev Clement
Big Mike
Chris Rempel
Vegas Vince
Dee Power
Tiffany Dow
Andrew Cavanagh
John Ritz
George Sepich
Judy Kettenhoffen
Dr. Mani
Willie Crawford

All the above for different reasons as they all bring something
different to the table. But these are people with really brilliant
minds. And there are so many others.

Me?

I'm just a hard worker. I never was the brightest kid in school.
I finished college with a C+ average. I could never keep a job
and even with IM, it took me 5 months to make $28.

No, I'm not very smart. I'm just a hard worker.

Fortunately, for me, it has been enough...up to now anyway.

I don't post as often as I used to because, quite honestly, I've
grown weary of the knock down drag-outs. Besides, I need to
spend more time on my business.

My business?

It has more than tripled since coming here. I have no doubt
that the Warrior Forum played a huge role in that, even though
lately things have been relatively slow. But I'm not worried.
I've learned a lot in 5 plus years and I know that whatever
happens, I'll be fine.

I know some of you have been waiting for this 10,000th post
hoping that I'd have something intelligent to say.

So that this post hopefully fulfills that, I am going to leave you
with 10 things that I feel will make all of us better marketers and
better people, and ultimately, make us more money. No, I haven't
forgotten. This forum is for discussing about making money. So
after I present my 10 things, I will ask for discussion on them,
thus keeping this a legit post. For those who detest my long
intros to this stuff, my apologies to you.

Here is my top 10.

1. Be yourself. If you try to be something other than who you
really are, you're not going to succeed. It's like a person trying
to remember all his lies. Eventually they all unravel. Be yourself
and your business will prosper.

2. Treat your customers with respect. They are essentially putting
food on your table. Without them, you have nothing. Don't ever
forget that.

3. It's only business. Don't kill yourself over it. Tomorrow is
another day. Don't stress over each one. Some days you'll
make sales and some days you won't. If you micro manage
your emotions, you'll go crazy. Take the ups and downs in
stride.

4. Be good to your family. Remember, they're the ones you're
doing this for. I do this for my wife and kid. So I don't want to
start taking things out on them when times get tough. Leave
your work in the office.

5. Everything you say and do is going to be out there for all
time
, especially if it's in print on the Internet. So make sure
that what you put out there is something you want everybody
to see. You can be controversial, as long as it's who you are.
Just understand what the consequences might be and be
prepared to live with them.

6. Don't ever stop learning. If this business really means
anything at all to you, you'll always strive to improve yourself.
Those who don't get left behind.

7. Pick your battles. Not everything is worth fighting about.
Some things are just better left ignored.

8. Don't think you're better than everybody else. You're not.
There is always somebody out there who is going to be
better than you. Confidence is one thing, but shoving it in
the faces of others may not be taken too kindly by those
around you. Nobody likes the smartest kid in the class
especially when he spends all day telling everybody how
stupid they are.

9. Keep an open mind. Somebody may just have an idea
that will help you. I truly believe that anybody can learn
from anybody else.

10. Finally, what goes around comes around. I am a firm
believer in karma. I'll leave it at that as I don't believe this
point needs any further explanation.

That's it.

So now, I'll open up the discussion. Couple of easy questions.

1. Do you think this post was a milestone or just mindless drivel?
Yes, I made a poll.

2. Do you agree, not agree, with my 10 points in helping to build
your success? Anything you want to add?

For those of you who took the time to read this, thank you. You
may not know it, but you're all important to me. I won't even try
to explain why because it gets into stuff that is just way too deep
for a marketing forum. Suffice it to say, it isn't all about making
money for me. I'll leave it at that.

I hope to be around for the next 10,000 posts. I have a feeling
that it's going to take me more than just a couple of years to
get there. I'm realizing that I need to spend more time with
my business and less time doing other things. And as much as
I love this place, my family and my business have to come first.

But make no mistake about it...I DO love this place. And I feel
so close to so many of you. If this forum disappeared tomorrow
I don't know what I'd do. This is like a home to me. So...

I'll still be around...Just not as visible as prior to this post.

I hope it didn't disappoint those who were waiting for it.

Sincerely,

Steven Wagenheim

PS - As a special gift, because let's face it, 10,000 posts is
still a milestone, even if it IS just mindless drivel, I am
giving any one of my products to the first 10 Warriors who ask
for it. You have to know what the product is that you want. So
do your research and then come back and make your request. I
will then PM you with details on how to get it.

** EDIT ** Offer All Gone...Thanks to all who asked

10,000 posts in such a relatively short period of
time begs the question... When do you actually

        Hi Steven

Congratulations wow! - what an achievement!

It's surely a milestone and not drivel. You've helped me a lot with your advice on writing articles and I make use of the info you provide.

Another one to add to your top 10 is to enjoy what you do. I think when it becomes more of a chore than a joy then that's the time I stop and think again.

If I'm still in with a chance for a book then I'd like The Complete Article Writing and Marketing Guide but if I've missed the boat then so be it.

    Congratulations, Steven!

One little thing you may wish to add to your list of 10.

    Take some time for yourself.

As I type this I'm sitting in a coffee shop in Blairsville, GA. Far away from my home/office in Florida.

The leaves are beautiful up here this time of year.

I've been essentially unplugged for most of the past week. After the "DT's" passed it's been great.

Do yourself a favor. Take a day or two off. You'll come back refreshed and better prepared for the fight.

When I saw this thread title it was on the home page and therefore abbreviated. It read,

      "10,000 Posts - A Milestone Or Mi..."

I thought you were going to say Millstone (much more poetic IMHO)

And I wouldn't have been too surprised. By having this high level of posts, you've made yourself stand out from the crowd and for whatever benefits that may have brought, it must have at times felt like a millstone around your neck. You must know that sometimes you get flack just because of your high profile. We British are fantastic at putting people down if they show a modicum of success and dare to shout about it. At least this forum demonstrates that attitude is unfortunately world-wide.

You've stuck your head above the parapet a good few times and you've taken your fair share of hits, dodged a few, sure, but definitely been caught more than once.

You're not always right, of course, but that doesn't matter. This forum is a much better place for having you in it, Steven.

Congrats on this attainment and maybe it'll take more than 2 more years to get to 20,000 but I just hope I'm there to see it.

      Cheers.

"10,000 Posts - A Milestone Or Mindless Drivel?" You had to ask,
    didn't you?

Some things have come through -

    - you are Crazy Prolific - and your writing is pretty sharp - probably
    mostly from incessant daily practice.

    - you weigh-in on a lot of more topics than many of us. You must
read really fast. I wonder if you make the time to read books as
    well?

    - Your personality is tenacious and feisty. Even though you are probably
not a type A personality you've adopted habits which lead to success
in direct marketing - a good lesson for everybody here.

    - you recognize that the internet pales in comparison to living and
making art. IM is an amazing tool but also exasperating and constantly
demanding. I haven't picked up a guitar for real in months - even though
at one time I played a great deal... while it's important to work at your
chosen livelihood it's equally vital to nourish your soul with activities
    that offer different freedoms.

      Was? :p

      Just kidding...

Congrats on reaching 10K. I'm a little over 9,000 behind you, and some days it feels like I live here.

The only thing I would add to your list is

Treat your customers with respect. And demand respect in return.

Ah, that's where I have my own hangups with demanding respect. I know I
should, and I certainly don't let people walk over me, but my customers
don't have to get all warm and fuzzy with me, and certainly if they have a
legitimate beef, I'll listen. But yeah, if they start calling me vile names, I'll
        defend myself.

Fortunately, it doesn't happen too often cause I'm just such a nice guy.

When you are old as Steven you don't sleep as well and usually go to bed at 7 pm and wake up at 3 am! You can get A LOT done at 3 in the morning!

You also can't please 100% of people 100% of the time so don't even TRY! Keep posting Steven, we all enjoy them.

      Steven,

Congratulations. And I'm glad you didn't let the weirdness run you out. You've helped a lot of people here.

As far as listening to anyone before yourself? Don't. As the guard said in "The Wizard of Oz,"... Not nobody, not no-how!

Being yourself is what it's all about, baby. Even if you manage to be happy while being someone else, what have you accomplished?

      You've made "someone else" happy.

      Ooooph.

Not sure if this is a mutual admiration society post or a Dean Martin celebrity roast?

What can I say about my boy Steve Wags that he himself hasn't said 10,000 times?

While most normal people leave short sticky notes on their computer screen to remind them of what to do----Waggs....leaves himself a 29 page hand written manifesto....cuz brevity has never been his style.

You have to love a guy who once made a living hustling and bustling on the mean streets of Philly...playing a banjo so bad...that alley cats lined up in droves and in heat.....and I'll never forget the sound of 40 ferell cats meowing and hissing at the same time. The cats were his only supporters back then...and they hated his ass too.

That's the beauty of Steve Wags and his banjo. It's like Jimmi Hendrix playin' the violin...dead drunk. It's got soul. It's got heart. So does Waggs.

Steve Waggs has come a long way from those days.

Flash forward...and Waggs now has built an empire based on cranking out more articles in one day....then Sarah Palin has read in her entire lifetime.

Steve Waggs has won friends, influenced Warriors--- and pissed off most of them. lol.

And yet we all love Steve The WagonMan. Cuz through it all...through all 56 billion words he's typed in the past week alone.......Steve Waggs puts his heart and soul out there....and does it HIS WAY.

I consider Waggs the Frank Sinatra of article writing.

Congrats...bro. I truly hope I'm dead before your next 10K post hits....but I've enjoyed the ride.

Rock on, Waggs. And may your New York Football Giants..prosper.

Steven, congratulations, and more importantly Thank You for being you. Too many people attempt to be someone other than who they really are, and subsequently fail miserably. You are successful because you stand tall in front of the world expressing truth. You have earned my total respect.

Bev, as I said in my post, I've made many mistakes here. I'm not proud of
them, but it's time I own up to them.

I won't forget what a HUGE help you've been to me. You got my head
together when I was drifting aimlessly.

Because of you and others, my income has tripled in 2 years.

As for 15,000, not any time soon. I'm going to try to keep a lower
profile, not post as much and get some more of my life together. As I
told John, it's time for a kinder and gentler me.
