Public Apology to Kelly Felix

A couple of months ago someone started a thread here about Kelly Felix's blog post where he was coming clean, etc. I balked at it in the discussion saying it smelled rotten because he had a product launch coming up (convenient, I said)...and it was called "Bring the Fresh." Basically, I said it was probably nothing more than a pre-launch tactic.

I don't know Kelly. I know a lot of gurus and have worked for/with many of the top names, but never Kelly. I was not a fan of the RJ once it got seedier and seedier so I had a bad taste in my mouth from the start about this guy.

So after reading something here, I posted on my own blog about it. Kelly replied there...we kind of argued back and forth where he was saying I was wrong about him, he'd changed, his product really was good, etc. I was leery. You have to be leery.

Within a day my blog post was #1-2 for his product name - probably not a good start for BTF. Kelly wanted to prove me wrong, so he gave me access to his product. Since I'd already started out bashing him, I didn't feel any obligation to be sweet from that point on. I was going to rip it apart and say, "I told you so."

Well....

I actually put it to the test. In 7 days I'm ranked #1 on Google for a search term that gets 12,100 searches per month and it's a phrase I feel confident will earn me some money.

This whole time, Kelly's answered questions (and Mike too), even offering me advice on another cool domain I should snatch up.

I've learned more in the core lessons for this product than I have in many full courses...and I haven't even gotten to the full disclosure videos yet.

Since this is where it (the argument) started, this is where I wanted to come back and apologize to Kelly. You were right - I was wrong. You changed and your stuff is good.

There. Man that crow tasted good!

Tiff

Thanks for doing that Tiff. I remember that thread as I got bashed for defending Kelly Felix. I also got free access to the course for my words in that thread ... as luck would have it, I'm on dialup and it's all video, so can't really take advantage of it, but I am subscribed to the "Group" and see a lot of people having the same kind of success with it that you just mentioned.

The way Kelly handled the whole situation (and you) is a major lesson in Business Ethics/Principles. How to handle a difficult/skeptical client.

He couldn't asked for a better "testimonial" than this - major exposure - honest - sincere - from the heart.

Tiff you come highly recommended by many "gurus" - what you did took guts.

On the contrary - it will boost his sales! If you "google" this thread it will come up about at nr 2 -3!

Tiff sound sincere and honest and I've bought a lot of stuff from her - I honestly doubt that this was used as a marketing gimmick.

You gotta love the skepticism of the Warrior Forum. If you make a post, and you could possibly make some money by making your post (on a forum about making money), you can be sure someone is going to yell, "Off with their head! They are trying to make money!"

Not that you did that Fraggler, just bringing attention to the skepticism. Its what keeps this forum valuable and clear of people that don't add value.

Sarcasm aside...I'm new here and there is an obvious click here at WF but come on people. She apologized for a mistake she made. Why the outpouring of sugary hugs?

I do think it was cool you apologized but why get into it with Kelly to begin with?

I find my time is better spent working my biz than going after other marketers.

On a side note I had someone post about me several years back that I was an "evil spammer worthy of damnation" and that dang post vexed me for two years trying to bury it. But the cool thing was it taught me SEO and in a way it did get me to quit spamming.

In all seriousness you did the right thing and you obviously deserve the reputation you have built up here.

Probably because it's so rare that you see an apology here for anything. Tiffany has a good reputation here and people listen, so when she bashes someone or someone's products, people listen. When she admits she made a mistake, people listen again, so any harm done is reversed.

Ah let me 'splain why I gave my $0.02 initially. Just so everyone knows I didn't post an original thread to begin with bashing his product. Someone (discrat maybe?) had posted a link to Kelly's blog where he came clean about his guru ways in the past, vowing to put it all behind him, etc.

The discussion opened up about it and my opinion was it was just a marketing tactic - because he conveniently had a product coming out. That was all.

In other words, I questioned his sincerity.

But he turned out to be sincere...

      1. Were the products he sold legal?...Check

      2. Were the products he sold of at least some value?...Check

      3. Were his promotional methods legal?...Check

      4. Did he honor money back guarantees?...Check

Then as far as I'm concerned, like his persona, products, methods or

It was actually not clear to me right away whether or not to give Tiffany a free review membership. But after checking out her site and seeing that she actually REVIEWS products thoroughly, with her honest opinion, I decided that the worst thing that could happen would be she would bash it... but even in that event I would still learn areas that needed to be improved upon... so the worst wasn't really so bad afterall. And I've gotten pretty used to having a thick skin over the RJ years.

When you create something and you're "in it" for so long, it's tough to step outside and look at it from a different point of view. So it's been really refreshing to have someone come in with a fine tooth comb and tell me what's good and what's not.

I've implemented several of her suggestions already.

So this just isn't a win-win for us. It's really a win for all of the BTF members as well. And I think this is kind of a win for IM too, because we both acted like adults & professionals, and it really didn't get into one of those nasty, ridiculous forum fights.

I'm sure we've all had a few friends that we originally disliked for whatever reason, only to find out they weren't so bad afterall. It turns out I like chatting with Tiffany. She's pretty blunt about her feelings and I respect that.

I don't necessarily think a public apology was necessary, but I appreciate it nonetheless.

It goes to show, it can be beneficial to be a little counter-intuitive and seek out your harshest critics if you believe in what you're doing.

I'll even go one step further and offer any warrior here a comped account if they have at least 1,000 posts, and promise to give an honest review of BTF, either on their blog or in the product review section of WF. PM me to be considered. (*Note to mods: this offer may belong more in the WSO section. If so, I can edit this out, and move it over there. Just let me know.)

      Kelly

Back from date night (Iron Man 2 kicks ass btw)....

I was NOT an affiliate of BTF even after I ranked #1-2 for BTF. In fact, I snickered that my negative post ranked high - that was not cool of me.

I was not an affiliate of BTF when I started reviewing it. It wasn't until I actually felt the product was worthy of endorsing that I asked for an affiliate link (it's one of those where they have to whitelist you).

And yes, when I spend my time thoroughly reviewing a product like I do - meaning dozens of posts breaking it all down, constant updates, etc., I think it's acceptable to get paid for that business time IF someone finds my review valuable.

I don't have an affiliate link in here...this is where the argument started - I blasted Kelly in front of all Warriors, so it was only fitting that I return to apologize in front of everyone too.

And no, I won't apologize for now being an affiliate of something I believe in. lol

This is something I'm constantly trying to teach my kids:

It's easy to not do the wrong thing.

Example: You see somebody getting mugged, the wrong thing would be to help the mugger.

See? That's very easy not to do. Anybody can avoid doing the wrong thing without much thought or effort.

It's much harder to do the right thing.

Example: You somebody getting mugged and you jump right in to fend off the attacker.

The tricky part is that people often confuse the two. They think by not doing the wrong thing, they are doing the right thinf, but they are as different as night and day.

Oh, I also sum it all up in one word...

    Character!

Thanks to everyone here, Tiffany included, that demonstrates character. Heaven only knows we need more of it.

It is good that Tiffany has apologized on the forum where all this began though it might have been a mistake on Tiffany's part from the beginning to make open and unfounded criticism based on inaccurate knowledge.

It is evident from the responses here that there are cynics who look for ulterior motives. Herein lies a problem for many of us who do not know the peple involved. Even then consider your closest friends and do you really know them?

It is all a matter of degrees. We are all liars and we even lie to ourselves. However, as far as I see things at face value; Tiffany has to be applauded for her apology and openness. If she had not done this, it could have come back to bite her later on. It is best to be truthful and open.

After all, being honorable and a keeping a good name is worth far more than any short term gain.

If you doubt someone in public, and turn out to be wrong, you rectify it in that same public arena. It's not like Tiff is claiming to be a saint or something. She's just doing what is to be reasonably expected from someone of decent character.

That a number of us are all so amazed speaks volumes about our culture -- in fact, more about our culture than about Tiff.

Tiff had good reason to doubt Kelly, honestly, and was expressing her opinion about a probability. We all know Tiff is fair and speaks from experience -- which makes her opinions worth listening to, even if she is making a guess, based on that experience, as to someone's motive.

It's good for people to make educated guesses and provide reasons for them, to help everyone else's thinking. Hers turned out to be wrong, and she expressed the truth of what she discovered.

In my opinion, she did everyone a favor when she did BOTH.

        Good going, Tiff.

Must admit I agreed with your negative comments (in theory at least) and was skeptical myself about the product and about Kelly. Part of that was because so many times we hear the "I've changed" - maybe the change was simply for Kelly to be his real self and leave the "persona" behind.

You weren't bashing the product just to bash it - it was what you honestly thought.

Correcting that impression makes sense and it's to your credit that you took the time to test the product. Also great that the product was good enough to change your opinion.

I'll just say it cause I'm sure others are thinking it, it looks like you were just bought off by a guru. You think they'd give you a free membership and hold your hand if you weren't ranking for a key term of theirs?

I have no opinion on Kelly Felix or the product. I'm just saying, let's follow the timeline here......

          1) You bash a guru
          2) You write a blog post and rank for a key term
          3) You get a free membership and personal handholding.
          4) You update your blog post, post another update, this time you're now a proud affiliate.

            5) You post a public apology in the warrior forum.

Sounds like they just bought off a negative review.
If you go back and read the thread more carefully from the beginning, you'll see that you have things in the wrong order above.

I don't know... I can understand why some people are always cynical about this kind of thing... probably because experience has shown they have good reason to be.

Still, I don't think your cynicism is warranted in this case, and I don't think you should be making public accusations about somebody's character like this unless you have some solid evidence to back it up -- not just a personal hunch colored by your perceptions of past experience.

            Just curious.

You said "This whole time, Kelly's answered questions (and Mike too), even offering me advice on another cool domain I should snatch up."

Did he give everyone else the same special treatment or just you?

Like I said above, it's a shame that it seems NOTHING can be accepted at face value anymore.

You've only got 34 posts, and the other guy I commented on above has only been a member for 3 weeks. Do either of you actually know the people involved in this at all?

Actually, I have been a follower of Tiff's for quite awhile. I don't know Kelly but I was turned off by the Rich Jerk stuff.

That's why I asked that question. I'm sure Kelly was aware of the reach Tiffany has so I legitimately wanted to know if the little nobodys who bought his course got the same great treatment.

I may only have 34 posts (well now, I guess it's 35) but have been an lurker on this forum for quite awhile. I don't post much because as you just prooved, you tend to get eaten alive on this forum.

I have access to the course and am a "little nobody" along with other "little nobodys" in the group and I have Kelly and Mike's cell phone numbers and have emailed them several times with prompt responses back. The personal communication with Kelly and Mike are part of the package ... even if you are a "little nobody."

It would be "bought off" if the product sucked and I caved and wrote a better review just because I'd been given free access to it. The handholding is part of the product - and I've made sure others are getting the same special treatment so it's not just me.

I became an affiliate because I liked what I saw, it's working for me, and it's smart business to promote something that I know my readers will like.

I publicly apologized because like I said in the original post, it's where it all started so it makes logical sense if you bash someone publicly, you return to the public forum and set things straight.

But who am I to contest being cynical? It's what started this all in the first place. lol

            Hey Ryan,

I respect your willingness to speak out in a thread that does appear to be quite one sided. I thought it too, but then I realized that it didnt matter whether it was a legitimate apology, a buy out, or an extremely well executed plan from the beginning - who cares i say...

Let us look at the end result: Everyone is talking about it!!

If this product provides advice on how to generate such a response then i'll put my name down to buy it in a second.

Respect to both Kelly and Tiffany, i've learnt some priceless lessons from reading this thread.

            Thank you.

I think it should be somewhat apparent that Tiffany has a reputation here and that reputation is for being honest. A lot of us know her so to assume that a lot of us were thinking that she was bought off, isn't correct. When Tiffany did her negative post, she actually knew nothing about Kelly's new product. Now she does ... so which review is more accurate? That done with no knowledge or that done with complete access to the product?

Some appear to think that there is an ulterior motive to everything ... someone bashes someone, someone changes their mind and apologizes. Let me see ... someone with an impeccable reputation and one for being honest does something "wrong", acknowledges that, apologizes and makes it right and this is hard for you to believe? What kind of people do you know?

As for personal handholding ... that's exactly what the course is about. Everyone gets personal handholding.
