LOL...Can you think of a better slogan than this?

So my HD failed on my notebook today (royal pain in bleep), and this led me to the manufaturer's web site where I saw something which made me laugh in disbelief:

Downloads : Support : Sony Asia Pacific

Their slogan is "Sony: Make, Believe" .... translation: "Sony: Pretend" !!

lol - you'd think a multinational like this would have a clue.

LOL That's Sony for you..dont trust them and will never buy their products.

Its quite funny how people think Sony is the "best" and convince themselves the extra cost is worth it.

Look at the failure rate of their Playstations...epecially PS1 and PS2....and compare that to Nintendo...there's no excuse.

I'm glad I'm not a sheep or I'd be a very broke and sad person...this has noting to do with you, just letting my thoughts out

I think Sony is a very good make for most of their products but with Playstations that is another matter.

People's judgment is often cloudy by the experience they have had with one product and if that product has been unreliable then they look at all products from that manufacturer as unreliable.

You never really know whose components are used in a product these days. You can slate a manufacturer for one product and yet be happy with another make using the same manufacturer's components.

It is wrong to say a manufacturer is rubbish when they have millions of happy customers.

    Personally...

I think you're getting it wrong.

    The slogan is

    SONY

    make. believe

Two separate words, split by a full stop.

As in : make it... believe it.

In order for it to be "translated" as you have, it would have to say make believe

No full stop. It makes a difference

I hear you.. of course they arent going to make such a blatant mistake as to have "make believe" as their slogan... but I still stick by my point that its sloppy, why risk a subsconscious misinterpretation? Clearly something that has been lost in translation I think....

        Is it a risk?..

Or a clever use of the words to imply a magical, mysterious element to SONY products?...

Well I guess its clever if people are perceiving it that way...

I personally think its sloppy - maybe im biased because i've had a bad run with my laptop

Logic Tells Us, That's Very True...

yet the sub-conscious mind picks up "something"
and flicks through ALL the possible meanings in a split nano second.

Then we come to our own conclusion, what that "something" means to us.

Understanding this... is the ultimate key to persuasion, copywriting
and for us as marketers,.. more sales...

Makes you wonder why these massive companies like sony dont hire
any well known copywriting "gurus" huh?

Maybe they did... which would explain my post No. 11 in this thread:

Sony is a good make. All companies have a few duds. I paid extra for a few Sony Vaio laptops because I was tired of HP's, Compaq's and toshibas getting all messed up and I really didn't want a nasty mac. 1 year now since I got this one and I'm still really happy with it. Plus it even looks nice

If we're going to complain about the playstation, how about that crappy Xbox?

In Japan, many of the Coca Cola vending machines had the slogan (in English) "No reason"

    Always made me laugh.
