How does the wp plugin gocodes work?

Sorry if this is in the wrong thread. I couldn't see where it would best fit.

I think I am missing something and have looked for some info but can't find anything that seems to provide me the info I need to understand how gocodes works
.
Here is what I know: (using examples)

I can change the keyword 'go' to anything I want. So, lets say I change it to 'stay'

I enter my affiliate link url - example http://mywebsite.com/asbdu/myaffiliate code


I hit 'add' and my redirect worked....but then what?


How is this supposed to work?
Why am I changing the word 'go'?
If the redirect worked, what do I use in place of my affiliate url above in the future?
How does the word 'stay' redirect my affiliate url?

    Yes, you are missing quite a lot...

    There are two [2] steps in using the plugin:

    1. admin > Settings > GoCodes: here you can (but don't have to!) change the "URL Trigger" - not keyword!
    You can leave it as it is, or you can use anything - that will be part of your 'shortened' url. E.g. if I put there "likes" and use it on my istvanhorvath.com domain, it would result in a url like "istvanhorvath.com/likes/----"

    2. admin > Tools > GoCodes
    Here is the place where you set your short codes.
    a) Redirection Key (not keyword, just key!) - "wf" as an example
    b) Target URL: e.g.
    Code:
    http://www.warriorforum.com/main-internet-marketing-discussion-forum/221222-how-does-wp-plugin-gocodes-work.html
    c) click Add redirect

    As a result I would have something like
    istvanhorvath.com/likes/wf ==> and this would redirect the visitor (if they click it) exactly to this forum post

    You can repeat step #2 as many times as you want for a zillion URLs.

    Thanks Istvan, I'm getting closer.

    When you say 'use it on' your site, what is 'it'......how do I actually use it? Sorry I just don't get this. What I am trying to do is set up a website and put some amazon products on it. If I set up my trigger using your example 'likes' (not keyword) as in #1 of your post, then in #2 i set up a redirect key WF, then....

    wouldn't I be inserting the amazon generated page link with my affiliate code in it ?

    But what do I take and put in my text on my site? If it is the amazon generated link I don't get why I am using gocodes.......I have been struggling with this for 4 days and I just don't get it!

    Now that you gave more details... it seems to me you are trying to use the wrong tool for what you want to achieve.

    This tool is NOT primarily an "affiliate link cloaker" - although you can use it in that way, too.

    "use it" = use the plugin with the url trigger 'likes'

    So, for your Amazon thing I'd use it in this way:

    Let's skip step #1 and leave it with the trigger "go" (short enough to work)

    admin > Tools > GoCodes:
    Key = the product name (e.g. green-gizmo)
    URL = the product page link that you got from your Amazon aff site
    Save.

    Now you have a link like:
    yourdomain.com/go/green-gizmo/
    Check it if it works, and then you can use it (copy/paste) anywhere in your site in an anchor tag (a href="...) in a text link, on an image or in whichever way you want it.

    I repeat: the primary function is this plugin is NOT affiliate code cloaking but URL shortener. But instead of going to bit.ly or budurl.com and places like that - you use your own domain. That's it.

    Specifically, for Amazon links I would do a proper search:
    amazon link wp plugin - Google Search
