How is it possible to Spam WF members email address?

Hi all,

How is it possible to get a spam email to my legit email address from a Warrior Forum member?

At any rate, I submitted the email to the help desk here on WF.

The member that sent it just joined today according to their profile.

Has this happened to anyone else?

This is an educated guess, as I don't know for sure. But, if you click on your ID, the menu that appears will have a selection that says 'send email to Deanna Taber', so I am guessing that this is what the member did.

      Well,
I never realized you could do that-so thanks Tim for pointing that out.

Still I find it pretty tacky to join a forum and on the first day start spamming the members.

You're right - it is tacky. People who do that may not last here for two days so guess they have to work fast.:p

I just received a spam message from a new member here who just joined today and who did not use the Private Message feature on the forum. I have no idea how this person got my email address.

    The email states:

This is a message from xxxx at WarriorForum - Internet Marketing Forums (
http://www.warriorforum.com/ ). The WarriorForum - Internet Marketing Forums owners cannot accept any responsibility for the contents of the email.
But the message did NOT come through the Warrior Forum Private Messages!

The message is a solicitation to join a private label dating site:

Hi, this is xxxx, from the marketing department of xxx.com. I just want to
invite you to join our private label dating site program.

We are looking for experienced Marketers. We would like to set up Senior Private
Label Dating Site for you at NO COST and offer all back-end for free.
I so hate this type of thing! Whoever you are please remove my name from your mailing list NOW!

You can send email without sending a private message.

This is configured in the options on your profile.

There is a checkbox to turn it on or off.

People with less than 50 posts don't have access to the PM feature, not sure about the email feature.

I just clicked on your profile and then the contact tab and an email window popped up. So that may be how they did it.

Btw, it doesn't display your email address, but it looks like I could send you an email through the Warrior server.

Internet marketing is not rocket science ... unsubscribe from every guru spam list you're currently on ... they just want to rape your wallet and make you co-dependent.

Yep, I got that one too...It's sitting on my message board so if you go visit my profile there he is, private label for senior dating blah blah blah.

WF is pretty good about this stuff but it is also up to us to help. I just reported it and hopefully it will be removed soon.

The other one I got yesterday was a PM addressing me by "hey dude"

    Really? LOL!

Deanna: This guy just joined the forum today. If you check his profile he has also posted a sticky note to himself with his spam message. Sticky notes can't be removed and they do get indexed in Google. He's also posting lots of one line repsonses to assorted threads.

Chris: I know that this feature exists. However, I thought the message went to your Private Messages inbox on the Warrior Forum, not directy to your private email address. I'm going to send you a message now to see where it goes.

Okay - I see where it goes. I disabled the 'receive email from members' feature. I was under the impression that by allowing members to send an email it went directly to your private messages box. It doesn't. So that is how this wonderful new member was able to deliver his spam!

I am sure that if you open a help ticket and give the desk the information you have shared here, this member will not be a member for much longer.

Do NOT reply to their email as that will give them your email address.

Just a quick note that I simply sent a request to the admin and it was promptly removed.

@CDarklock, thanks so much for taking the time to post that information! Learn something new everyday...
