SOLVED: WSO Scammer in the House - WSO Sellers Beware

No names being mentioned here because I don't want this thread to be deleted.

I am running a WSO (signature removed) and at 3.49pm the email with the download information was sent to them.

At 3.58pm they sent the following email

Hi - Sorry, but can I have a refund? To call those 'secrets' is laughable. Please let me know.

So in less than 10 mins they downloaded the file and read the book of over 5,000 words.

Let's assume that is true why do I call them a scammer.

My WSO is free, they asked for a refund of a free product.

So sellers beware, I would imagine I am not the first person they have asked for their money back, and won't be the last.

Actually sometimes I wish I got my money back for wasting my time over some of the freebies I've read over the years if that makes any sense.

I'm a Brit and the person asking for a refund was also a Brit, so no problem with understanding the British humour.

The person took the time and effort to send an email to me requesting the refund.

Kevin had a problem with the person who wrote secret No 4. He says he will need a lot of therapy, so I suggest he sues the author of secret No 4. It will make interesting tv watching.

As John said I haven't put in all the information.

Let me say, the are certain things that haven't been said, like my reaction to it. I wait and see what happens next.

I will say that the person is running a free Classified, so if anyone wants it and wants to refund a free product then that is the one to go for.

I've just finished reading through this whole thread and I can't believe
nobody has brought this up yet, so I will just in case there are some who
aren't sure how to prevent bogus refunds for products they either didn't buy
        or got for free.

This is the procedure I follow and is how I catch most scammers.

        1. Ask them to forward their receipt of purchase so I can match it up to my
        records.

        Their answer:

        I didn't get a receipt or I deleted it.

        2. Ask them to tell you the date that they purchased the product.

        Their answer:

        I don't remember the date.

        3. Ask them to tell you what email address they purchased it through.

        Their answer:

I don't remember which one. I have so many.

        4. Ask them to give you a list of all their email addresses that they use
and I'll find the one that matches.

        Their answer:

I'm not releasing that info. How do I know that you just won't try to hack
        my account?

        5. My reply. Then if you give me no way to track your purchase, there is
no way for me to find it so that I can issue the refund. Have a nice day.

        Their answer:

Then I'll report you to PayPal

        6. My reply. Be my guest.

Now, if they actually try to go through with this bluff, PayPal is going to
want to know what product it is. Now, let's say it's another product he
bought from another merchant. He knows he can't send the receipt to me
because he knows I'll recognize it's not mine, so he sends that transaction
to PayPal and tries to claim it's my account. Naturally, it won't match and
either PayPal will realize it's a bogus claim or they'll simply refund the
purchase to the merchant who sold the product.

And yes, in case you're going to ask, this exact same scenario happened
        to me.

How do you think I got so good at this stuff?

I have done some checking on the forum, and they have commented in a lot of WSO, all of them are expensive services. So if you do offer a service do your due dilligence about who your customers are, because I should imagine they will get the work and either not pay or ask for a refund.

    BEV,

    lol

Well..i see those occasionally, people who demand refunds citing totally bizarre reasons (like: "product is a demo") or other nonsense, where its very clear that they use some pre-fabricated emails to get their refunds. Often those emails/reasons dont match the product AT ALL.

I also sometimes get refunders sending the same pre-made letters for different products of mine - sometimes an hour after download where its impossible to even get an idea what the product(s) are about.

The bad thing is.....with paypal we dont have any SELLER protection if we sell digital products. NONE!
However, every BUYER however can pull whatever bizarre reason out of their b**t and they will ALWAYS get their money and paypal even backs them!

Well usually it doesn't even need a dispute, you can solve/refund without even starting the ugly dispute process.
But i am talking about the professional refunders, and yes, as some said, there are certain countries where there are HORDES of them.
(If i see a chinese name in my sales i can almost always certainly expect a refund. Sad, but true.)

Furthermore, this whole market is global. Naturally, more refunds from "3rd world" countries than from UK, EU and US.
PayPal and CB actively support this, and there is not really anything you can do about it as a SELLER of digital products or services.

That's why i like products which come with a membership..so if someone refunds i can just mark them as "refunded" and they cant access the site/service anymore.
It really, really bugs me since i have some other products which come with software, and even WITH a refund i know that the person in question can happily continue using the software, even after the refund ;(

          Hi Bev,

I must apologize for I feel responsible for this incident. In fact, I think I am the cause of so many refunds within minutes of purchase.

You see, I wrote an ebook. A how to make money on the internet type of ebook. It sold very well.

The whole premise was to sign up for free things and moments later ask for refunds. I was looking for a pushbutton solution that people could do without putting money in or hard work and this was the best solution.

I humbly apologize and finally see the error of my ways.

I had it happen to me today. Someone from Turkey purchased, and I just knew they were going to ask for a refund (nothing against the legit purchasers in Turkey, just a pattern I've grown to recognize).

Hi Bev, I have heard stories of scammers ordering as many products as possible with pay pal and then asking for an immediate refund with out telling the seller that they have put in a fraud complaint with Pay Pal.
Most of the sellers refund the purchase price immediately just to find out later that Pay Pal has frozen the payment seller was to receive until investigation can be completed. Do beware, many are not refunding for 60 days and this is why.

Since Bev won't out the Warrior who asked for a refund, I must.

It was me. And I think I was quite justified. Nowhere on that WSO did it state, "This report has many words and no pictures".

I realize it was a free report, but I'm asking for compensation for the time I wasted running for my dictionary. I mean, c'mon, some of those words had 3-4 syllables in them.

Annoyed Girl, Skype message gone for the name and shame wall.

Dmitry I totally understand what you mean, but let's look at the facts for a moment. This person spent around 10 mins signing up and getting the product downloaded. The product is over 5,000 words written by top writers. Over 800 downloads in just over 24 hours and only 1 person has said they didn't like it. Fine they didn't like it, but to ask for their money back is laughable. It was free, they posted in another wso that the product was great, and now that has been removed to say that the product wasn't good, and they wanted their money back. They admitted they had only downloaded a small amount of what they were buying, but they wanted their money back.

    Now Bev,

It's really silly really - a refund on a FREE product...

Perhaps you should place a "Strictly No Refunds" in your copy or download page or email... put in BOLD print.

That is unbelievable. No, it's not, I know there are lame pathetic scammers out there, but you are right, the fact that he sent that email without realizing it was a free ebook just shows that this person automatically demands a refund for every product he orders. I seriously wish it were possible to press charges against people like that; it's outright thievery.

And the fact that this slimeball had the nerve to insult the product and THEN demand a refund when he clearly is just a ripoff artist...my blood is boiling.

In the WSO forum, you'll see a couple of posts from a UK Warrior. In the first post he asks for a refund. In the second, made less than 2 hours later, he threatens to take the dispute to Paypal because he hasn't had the refund yet.

These UK Warriors are a pretty strange lot, aren't they?

Final update, you draw your own conclusion

Their reply to my previous email.

Blimey! Talk about jumping to a dozen incorrect conclusions. I actually purchased about 10 different packages yesterday. I just got confused, thinking yours was one of the paid packages. Sorry for the confusion and the accusation.

              My response.

You were the one who asked for a refund within 8 minutes of downloading the package. You knew enough to make a comment about the type of product it was, and also to send the email back to me with the word FREE in it. Today you ask was it free. No incorrect conclusions.

You signed up for my list, you got the email, and 8 mins after the email was sent you, you hit reply and asked for an refund, and made some comment about it. No way could you have downloaded, and read it and asked for a refund in 8 minutes. Tell me what conclusions did I jump to apart from you trying to get a refund of a free product, and the response was almost like an automated one.

If you bought 10 packages, then it is your responsibility to know which one you are claiming a refund of. Obviously you have no idea how business works, because you don't go to Tesco and buy something, and then moments later demand a refund from Sainsbury. Try it and see what they say.

You response today was asking if it was a free e-book because you have no idea. I doubt you had even unzipped the package and read it in that 8 minutes. No accusations, just straight facts.

So you bought a product from someone else but don't know the difference between a paid product and a free to get the correct refund. My suggestion is next time stop and think before you ask for a refund. It only takes a moment, but you were too happy to demand refunds because you couldn't be bothered to check what you were asking for a refund. So if I had been charging for it, you would have got a refund, and by your own admission it wasn't my product that was the problem but someone elses. Sounds like you refund all the time, that you can't work out which one is at fault.

Usually when someone accuses someone of jumping conclusions, that's a red flag. I think you handled it very well.

I would be curious to know how many posts the person had when requesting a refund. That's incredible and sad at the same time.
