Sometimes you get what you pay for, and that goes for hosting as well. If you try to go cheap, expect to get a cheap server. There is no way a shared host is going to handle 50 sites - and all of them getting any amount of real traffic.

Personally, I lease a quad core dedicated server with 8 gigs of memory. On that server I run 2 vbulletin forums, 1 mybb forum and 2 wordpress blogs.

To ensure that my sites load fast, and are able to do what I want them to, I lease a server to get the job done. On the flip side of the coin, I also pay the price for it monthly.

Just because you're in the UK, doesn't mean you can't use hosting services in other countries (and vice versa). Shared hosting (doesn't even need to be a reseller account) on a service like Hostgator gives you unlimited domains for a very reasonable price: then if and when your number of sites and traffic warrants, you can move up to a more expensive non-shared service.

Spreading your sites over more than one hosting service is a good thing, BTW - if you have them all on one host, Google may not give links between them as much weight as it would otherwise: and if one host goes belly up or freezes your account, you have somewhere to move your sites right away.

Hostgator and Hostmonster .... I use them both. Have tons of domains hosted on each account.

Another option would be SEO-Host.com or SEOHosting.com - multiple c class ip addresses. Use that to your advantage for SEO.

SEOWebHosting.com offers this as well, also with multiple geographical locations.

Was your web host UnitedHosting by any chance (I used to have a package with the exact same specifications )

You can buy multi-domain hosting through sites like HostGator (another highly recommended web host), but there's no such thing as unlimited space/bandwidth... if you read their tems of service, there is a maximum size limit for each file you're allowed to upload and a quota for the amount of inodes (each file = 1 inode, I believe) you're allowed to store. So basically, "unlimited" is just a marketing gimmick.

Having said that, their regular packages are absolutely fine unless you have hundreds of thousands of files you want to host, or indeed lots of big files (of many MBs each), but as your network of sites grows you might want to look at switching either to a reseller package or a VPS or even dedicated server.

I use HostGator and have been for about 10 years. Great thing about hosting a website that as long as you can make a payment to your host company you can have the access that you need to do anything online. My account, $24.95/month lets me host as many sites as I want personally, plus I can resell accounts to cover costs and even make money.
