Press Release Web Based Automated Submission Tool

We've got TubeMogul for Videos.

And iSnare for articles.

Is there any kind of free or low cost web based automated submission tool for press releases? There sure are enough free press release sites to submit to!

If not, I've seen some scripts & a form generator. Anyone recommend anything?

EDIT: April 11, 2011 - Just an FYI for anyone happening across this thread...I have changed the way I submit press releases.

I no longer use automated submission tools. I submit them by hand and take the time to make sure they are properly optimized for search engines and placed in the most relevant category for the topic (each distribution site uses a different set of categories).

I use either paid or free distribution sites, depending on the campaign strategy for the particular business and keywords.

If you want to know about my current strategy using free press release distribution sites, you can read about it on my blog:
Strategy for Using Free Press Release Distribution Sites | Press Release Basics

Remember...this thread was started and the original comments were written in June of 2010. Plenty of things have changed online since then!

    Thanks!

Do the free press release submission sites distribute, or is it just the paid ones that actually distribute?

With all respect to GeorgeR, most of the good free sites do distribute to Google News, but some distribute to Bing and Yahoo, too. And they offer RSS feeds to webmasters, so your release may get picked up by niche sites, too.

I discovered this because I write in lots of different niches for clients, and I've been tracking how their releases get distributed by free sites.

What I've observed is that all will get indexed by Google, some will get picked up by Bing, some by Yahoo depending on the niche. Also, their releases get picked up by different niche sites because webmasters can subscribe to the distribution sites' RSS feeds by category.

So it does pay off to distribute to different free sites, based on my own research.

But I've found that there a only a few (less than 20) free distribution sites that are worth submitting to.

I've combed through a few of those lists of hundreds of free distribution sites, and the majority of the sites are spam farms that plaster their sites with ads, keyword-stuff the meta tags on the release page that they post on site, and never distribute the releases that are submitted to them.

However, the free distribution sites that are legitimate (BigNews.biz and PRLog.org are two of them, as GeorgeR mentioned) are worth posting to for the reasons I stated above -- news feeds and niche RSS feeds.

I know that using a mass submission tool works great for videos -- you can get several of the top Google spots instead of just one.

Seems like the same principle might apply to press releases.

So Summer, you use PressBot to submit to the 20 useful sites? Unfortunately, it doesn't look like its available for my mac.

I use a PC, so I don't know whether it works for Macs or not. You could try PM-ing Big Mike or John Rodgers -- or contacting them through the Incansoft site.

    PR "distribution" is actually nonsense.

The main goal is that your PR is getting picked up by Google news. Most (even free ones) PR sites will distribute their press releases to google news. So i dont see the point in submitting to multiple press release sites really.

Submit to bignews.biz and/or prlog.org (both free) and enjoy your high google rankings. You dont need more, you dont need "press release distribution" and you for sure don't need to pay some scam service which charges a fortune for submitting a press release.

Press releases on the online platforms are good for
backlinks. They can also get you a lot of traffic to
an offer, especially where scarcity and real desirability
      is a factor.

Most ebooks and stuff we sell in IM is pretty un-newsworthy
      and more important not obsession-worthy.

I've gotten 1500 views on a press release for a trailer
I sold a while back. People were absolutely mad, as
in desperate, to get one of these trailers, used, at
less than half retail. I had genuine scarcity, a desirable
product, and the keywords are ones that motorcycle
people are typing into Google every day, desperately
sorting to buy such a trailer without breaking the bank.

Lightening won't strike most press releases. The topic
and promise of the release has to be something that
inspires enough passion in people that they are actively
searching and looking for what you've got. Information
products often don't fit that criteria, unfortunately. Of
course you do what you can to put "spin" on your topic.

      ###

I do use an automated submitter, described in the
"Free Traffic Formula" below, but many of the better
press release directories aren't supported so some
manner of hand-submission is needed if you may press
releases a big part of your promoting.

They are underused, in my opinion.

    Hi Summer07!

Just found this thread. Are you saying you use Pressbot happily? And that only 20 or so sites are good? And that Pressbot uses those good ones, eg. BigNews.biz and PRLog.orgwould be good? Did I get that all correct?

Because I bought the "Automated Traffic Bot" after the "World Internet Summit" here in London, haven't had time to use it, now wanted to use it, ... and it doesn't work at all! Plus: The sales site has been taken down, I don't find any support anywhere, not even a "How to use this" pdf or so..! :-(
So I need a "real" solution this time, without wasting my money again.

Free press release distribution services aren't effective enough. Duplicated content doesn't help to build backlinks and get traffic to a site

Interesting point -- except that both free and paid distribution sites create what you're calling 'duplicated content'. It's actually syndicated content, and it's done all the time in the publishing world -- online and offline

Websites that subscribe to the distribution sites publish the press releases via RSS feeds -- also creating 'duplicated content'.

The paid distribution sites have better access to Google News, Bing, Yahoo, and newswires -- but the news sites still duplicate each others content when they publish the same press release.

So the 'duplicate content' issue is really an authority site issue, and mostly applies to high competition keywords. The big sites will win.

But check Google for long tail and local keywords. You'll find plenty of press releases from distribution sites, both paid and the better free ones.

And remember, not ALL traffic comes from Google. Press releases that are published on relevant websites that subscribe to the RSS feeds can create traffic from those visitors, too.

Overall, I agree that paid distribution sites are more effective. But that doesn't mean free sites yield zero effect. They're still valuable for people who are on a budget.

Not everyone can afford $330, $100, or even $20 per press release on a regular basis. Better to use the good free distribution sites than none at all.

And it's better to submit different press releases to a good free distribution site over the course of several months or a year -- use a press release campaign -- instead of spamming 100 distribution sites with the same press release!

Best is to use press releases along with several other effective content marketing activities -- like guest blogging, quality article marketing, white papers, videos, etc.

Paid press releases really are better than free one's, it's all about getting your press release housed on a high page rank domain, which isn't possible with a free site.
