SEO & The Lazy Purchasing Agent

Back a few years ago, I was the purchasing agent for a Midsized Wholesale HVAC Distributor. I remember the negotiations for best pricing. They were sometimes brutal. And then as the VP of sales for the same company, working with contractor groups and they would beat the life out of us for best price.

Well, today I got to see the opposite. I received a call today from a purchasing agent with a large oilfield group. She had found my site and wanted pricing on an item. I gave her the site price and she said she wanted 150, and could she get a better price. I called my vendor and negotiate a volume purchase and called the PA back and gave her a lower cost. (actually I improved my margin significantly with my vendor at the lower cost).

The PA placed the order and I had my vendor ship the order. So, I tell you that, to tell you this;

If you Google "60 Amp Non Fused Disconnect" My site comes up in the first organic position. (not a huge feat at 1 of 34,000), but my partner Debbie Songster has done a great job of getting a good organic search ratio in a pretty short time. The thing was, if this PA had searched a little further down, she could have gotten a better deal without the negotiation.

So I guess the moral is: SEO is King, and I Love Lazy Purchasing Agents. 30 minutes of work, in my gym shorts, with my cat curled up in my lap and $500 profit after all expenses. I love my job :-)
