As a joke one of my friends set up a facebook page. Now the page has upwards of 300000 fans. Its not related to any product just for fun sort of thing, but my question what would you do with it?

Find a way to monetize it. However, I'm a marketer. It might piss off the fans.

Ya a big party and charge every one 5 euro in would do the job, of course first drink would be included in the enterence fee. 300000 x 5 = 1500000
but thats if every one shows up, im sure at least 53 of our group wont because there a holes but the rest will.

No but really a big bash like that would be a great way to make monies if used right.A big dj and so on, get the locial media involved..

Seriously though, find a way to monetize based around the page topic

How to monetize depends entirely on the topic and demographics of the fans

Without more info, can't be more specific

Send out periodic announcements about "products that you may find useful". Not too much nor too often though, as that might come across as spam and cause some fans to un-like the page. And make sure the products you suggest are really useful.

Sell merchandise and make some money? Facebook may not like it though.

I say write a book how your friend set up a facebook page "as a joke" and was able to gather 300,000 members. Then take that book and sell it as a WSO.

I would be interested in hearing the story and be your first customer.

Well I suppose it depends on your angle. Do you have products to promote? Do you need ideas on marketing to the followers?

Personally, I would open a bigger bank account as you will need it. Brilliant comments from those above.

Taking a "I like eggs at 3am in the morning" type of group, well, I'd rather build a site and get 100 targeted people on my list personally. They join in that random moment and that is it, never to be seen again.

300,000 is a lot. Might as well take advantage and promote a product or service. Definitely you'll have someone to take the offer.

You can definitely monetise the fan page.
BUt like many have said you need to know what their interests are - what relevant products could you promote

This is easy. Since your traffic is untargeted and probably enjoy wasting time, Get a CPA offer for one of those time wasting social games and drive them to it. For instance I just did a quick search on Neverblue and found that
    http://www.farmerama.com/

Is offering 53 cents per US lead.

There is that and probably dozens others if you sniff around CPA networks
