I don't get monetization.

Can someone explain how this works? In terms of selling someone else's product.

I've learned that you can use an affiliate link to direct someone to somewhere, which will earn you money.

But then, you would only be able to market products that are on an affiliate site like Clickbank, or such.

Then how are people promoting and making money off products that don't have an affiliate program like, example, birdhouses, or diet pills?

Buy wholesale and sell retail? Or in the case of the diet pills, use private labeling?

Sell something that a business around you sells. IMOA the more expensive the better. Go to them and ask them if you can sell their product for them.
      Now use your imagination.

Another tip keep a little book with you all the time. When you think of a good idea right it down. This will help your brain work. You have nothing to lose..

Let say strictly selling an affiliate product online. Basic newbie SEO stuff.

    My choices are:

    An affiliate program:

    Clickbank, or such a service.
    Ebay or Amazon
The actual niche retailer (like Nike Affiliate Program for shoes)

    And that's about it right?

And then you would make a blog or website, and put an affiliate link that if people use, you get paid.

    Right?

I know there are a ton of affiliate programs for diet pills, and most likely you could find one for bird houses as well!

Check out sites like shareasale.com and commission junction to name a few.

But yes, you understand the basics. Pick a product, create a site and promote your affiliate link. However, what you need is enough traffic to your site, and that's where things can get tricky for you.

The trick is to find something that interests you because, by definition, you'll find what you do more interesting.

Say you are fascinated by flea treatments for cats.

You would then set up a blog with posts all about fleas and how to get rid of them.

Then you could sign up to the Amazon associates program. They will give you links (with a special code in them) that you can put on your blog. The special code tell Amazon that the people clicking on those links are coming from your blog. When any of these people buy something from Amazon (even if it's not a flea killing product) - Amazon will give you around 5% commission.

For example: You write a post about a spot-on treatment for cats that lasts up to 3 months. You tried it on your cat and she was flea-free within 24hrs. What's more, she was much happier and back to her old self. You tried flea collars in the past and they just didn't work and you didn't want to try the sprays because you'e heard of cats being poisioned by them. So, you're so glad you used Front Line spot on treatment.

Next you log into Amazon and get a link for Front line spot on treat. This is an automated process and Amazon does pretty much all of the work. You just type in a few details. Amaxon then gives you some html code you can put on your blog.

When you upload your post, an advert for Front Line spot on treatment will appear.

Anyone who clicks on that advert will be taken to Amazon.com. Whatever they buy, whether it is Front line or a book on playing the cow bell, you will get commission.

Nearly every product will have affiliate programs, you just need to know where to look.

Without even looking at Amazon.com you can always go to Google and search for: birdhouses +affiliate

The first result has its own affiliate program. As long as you can get traffic to the right pages, you can sell pretty much anything online as an affiliate.
