as many blogs as possible or focusing on one?

Hey,

another newbie question:
Is it more profitable to create several blogs / websites or
do you suggest focusing on one?
Or in general: If I want to get my online business started,
does it make sense to work on more than one income stream?
Thanks in advance!

Best regards,
Alex

Focus on 1 to start with - get it developed, established, and then go from there. If you take on too much, you might feel over whelmed after awhile.

I have 5 blogs, and only have the time to update 1 on a regular basis.

I would suggest setting up 1 blog which you focus on and 5 other blogs that build by themselves, automatically, and feed into your main blog. Try and make sure each blog is on a different C Block - easy way is to use different hosting - but your host can tell you if they provide that service.

If you are starting out one would be your best bet. After you get some traffic and money from the first you can start the second and so on. Another strategy would be to start with one that covers a whole market- let's say travel. Then you build the site architecture in a way in which you could get 1k niche blogs inside the same big blog. Think of it as a variation of wikipedia.

Now the differences between the two are going to dictate the linkbuilding process. Although I initially started with small niche sites and I now have these bigger sites as well. And the thing is with the small sites you can allow yourself to do more creative/maybe risky things and with the bigger sites you have more leverage - domain authority, branding etc.

Start with one and make it an authority site. Build a list from the visitors who go there.

Do it properly and you will never need another one.

start with as many as you are able to focus on. The real work begins after registering your site or blog. content issues, traffic generation etc. one step at a time then, you see.

I would suggest focus on one or two and then try to put quality on it. Its very hard to maintain too many blog. you will quality articles, Seo, trafic, etc. Try to focus one at a time and then slowly scale it up. Outsource if necessary.

The thing you need to understand first is that there are two different business models you're looking at.

The first, "focusing on one" is creating an authority site. It takes a while to do and you're essentially pinning your hopes on that one site being the big one. When it isn't, and it is very likely not to be 'the one' on your first go, expect to be disappointed and be back here complaining about how you only made $20 your first year in IM. Now, if you have the personality and the plan to pull it off, you might well do a lot better than that. Generally the people I see being successful with this model are the type of people who attract a lot of other people for one reason or another. Is that you?

The second, "as many blogs as possible" means that you're building a lot of sites that target easier to rank for niche keywords. This spreads out your targeting and increases your odds of making money. However, this does require some degree of automation and/or outsourcing to accomplish on the scale to be profitable. The important thing to remember in this model is that site visitors are not your customers, the advertisers of the products your promoting are your real customers. Some people get confused about this. This plan is well suited for someone who likes to remain under the radar, more or less.

There are of course hybrids of the two models. Some people do both to some degree (which is what I do).

  • They are two complete different business models: one seeks authority and niche presence, the other one seeks automation and residual income.

Since you're a beginner, I'd advise you to focus on only one blog and to build it up: it'll be a good practice to dip your toes into Internet Marketing.

The "two models' posts are right on the money.

Interestingly though, if you find that one or two sites of your many really take off, you can *then* focus on turning those sites into authority/hub sites, thus reducing the risk that bgmacaw talks about.

    Hi,

As a newbie myself I can tell you it is best to strart one blog at a time, I tried starting 3 as my first attempt and found myself getting lost with all the work it involves especially if you have a low budget and are trying to get traffic for free, concentrat on one blog and drive traffic as much as possible then move on.

Man Internet marketing is tough! Registering your first domain name makes you feel powerful and setting up your first website/blog gives you a sense of accomplishment, but as soon as you start adding content and driving traffic then it's a whole new ballgame.

Trying to keep up with everything is going to take a lot of work and your leads are going to respect you a lot more if your able to devote your full attention on them. You can make a lot of money if you run successful sites in different niches, but you should start off with just one so you can see exactly what it takes to maintain.

Focus on that Blog and give out the absolute best content and help you can then as you start making money and your profits grow...outsource! Get help from others and you will be able to create blogs in a few different niches. This will save you a lot of time and keep you focused on your main site.
