Creating A Fitness E-Book

Hi:

I've had some great success with a fitness and nutrition plan which I have been on for the past 4-5 months or so.

I've really always wanted to created an e-book which explains everything I have done in detail in order to achieve my results.

I understand that the fitness niche is huge and there is a lot of competition. However, I run a successful music website which is placed at #1 for the fairly competitive keywords that I have chosen, so I know a decent amount about SEO.

My questions is this: Where should I begin when making an E-Book? Are there any recommended readings that I should look over in order to learn the basics about how to create the product?

I plan on outsourcing the sales page and all other web design and programming work, but I just need a little kick-start in the right direction.

Thanks for any and all help!

There are lots of great places to outsource your work, the warriors for hire section has a lot of talented people. If you were planning on outsourcing all of that you should ask how much one of the ebook creation services would charge less if you provided all of the content, so all you have to do is put together what and how you want your book to read and send them the file and they can copy and paste into the beautiful pages of your new ebook, I would expect this to cut their full ebook cost in half. Dont get me wrong, it will be a great skill to learn how to create your own, but you should learn it all and for now, to get your idea out there and fast, outsourse.
    Hope this helps

Create an outline of what you want it to include. Then use open office to write the ebook. once your happy with all the revisions, export it as a pdf.

As far as writing the book itself, I find it very helpful to make a list of questions that my readers would have in mind as they read my book, and I make sure to address them all before I finish the last draft.

As for formatting, be sure not to use an overly large or small font - and definitely none of those hard to read fonts! Arial, Verdana, or even Times are all good fonts, and size can be from 12pt to 14pt - but everyone has their preferences on that.

Try not to make your paragraphs too long - you need a good amount of white space between small to medium length paragraphs (each paragraph being perhaps 5 to 10 sentences long - I wouldn't make them too much longer because reading long blocks of text online is hard on the eyes).

Also, if you can, try to space the lines of your paragraphs bigger than single space - some people do 1.5 lines; I usually do slightly less than that, between 17-20pt line spacing. That leaves a decent amount of room between the lines without making them TOO far apart.

Go easy on graphics and photos if you include any, remember that some people will want to print your book so that would require a lot of ink. Likewise with using colored fonts, try to keep that to a minimum and use mostly black, unless you want a different color for chapter headings and links.

Proofread, proofread, proofread. Edit. Proofread some more.

Thanks everyone for the quick replies!

WebMarketer: I will definitely utilize the "Warriors For Hire" section for some of my outsourcing. Do you know of any reputable companies off hand for the Ebook creation?

        Thanks for the info, Ernie.

Wendy: Great info on the formatting! I'll be sure to do these things if I decide to make the book myself.

        I appreciate everyone's help.

We could do it for you! ; )

That aside, when creating a product in a niche where there are other products, I tend to find it is a good idea to look at the salespages of other products. You can check out the bullet points and find out what type of things are included within the ebook.

You can also visit forums in your niche to find out what your target markets issues are first, this can also give you ideas of structure!

As you already realized.. " fitness niche is huge and there is a lot of competition ". So, you'd probably want to have the cover design extremely attractive to get instant buy in from your audience. And of course, the content has to offer more value than the general stuff you can find on the internet.

I use Elance and have had some good, and some bad, expeiences. The best advice is to make sure that you're very, very clear about what your expectations are and to choose a native speaker of the language in which you'd like your book to be written in. Lastly, the cheapest is generally not the best!

Parts of your eBook Process to consider:

    1) A short report as a give away to build the list. Allow rebranding to then promote the eBook product itself for affiliates to promote and sell for you
    2) Write the book yourself if you have passion for the subject and personal experience, it will be more "human" and powerful
    3) Use a copy writer to produce a good sales page.
    4) Outsource anything you are not good at, have no time for or just want done
    5) Consider: Sales Page copy, Autoresponder Series Copy, Squeeze Page Design, Sales Page Design, ebook cover design, promotional video perhaps. Download page template, Twitter account, facebook, page, around 10-20 articles to place on the directories
    6) Use a third party to proof read your content.

Worth writing the content in Word, then convert to a PDF. This can be done from inside Word itself, or you can use the free word processor option.

There are many service providers out there, if you need some help, drop me a pm, happy to help.

All the best on your project.
