Where to start? Newbie needs a little advice

Hi everyone,

This is my first post on this forum, so hello

I have great interest in learning more about this whole internet marketing thing, but I really have no idea where to start. I stumbled onto this website earlier today and have been skimming through the different threads, but it is all so overwhelming to me. There is just so much information in here.

I read some good things about the War Room and signed up with an impulse purchase, but am now thinking I may have made a mistake. Everything seems geared towards people who already know what they are doing or are looking to expand on their knowledge. I need a primer or introductory course that clearly explains the basics before I can ever hope to make sense of the information in the War Room. Or maybe the information is there and I just haven't found it yet. Can anyone point me to some good threads in there for a new guy?

Just looking for some insight on where to start educating myself so that I can start creating my business. Perhaps some of you can share how you got started in this business, where you got your information, things to avoid, and any other words of advice you are willing to impart.

Thanks in advance for all the replies!

Hi IM has many areas and this is where newbies get confused.

If you want to know the basics then affiliate marketing is the way to go. Start from there then many other ideas and concept will eventually fall into place.

All IM projects have a process and in most cases affiliate marketing goes like this:

From idea, to keyword research, products to promote, building site, method of getting traffic, conversions, = BANK $$

So find something to sell (as an affiliate)
Do keyword research and see if there is demand for it (ie if you're traffic method is SE) It its article marketing then this is slightly different but near the same. Can you beat the competition in Google?

Search for companies or affiliate programs that have a good product for that demand.

Build an affiliate friendly site, insert aff links.

    Start the traffic generation.

Monitor you CTR and where they are clicking and see which converts the best and results
    into a sale.

    Rinse and repeat.

Understanding the process is easy, just like this post but doing it is NOT if you don't understand the tools you use, technical skills with wordpress or site building, not knowing how to do seo etc.

Theres a ton to learn even with the basics of affiliate marketing for a newbie but the fact that you're here on this forum tells me that you're interested in making money and you're willing to put in the hard work to learn the process and skills to make this work.

Do that and you'll be fine.

    Michael

I just copied and pasted what I wrote about a half-hour ago to another newbie asking the same question.

I'm still a newbie at this, but I can tell you this much. Be very careful with all the products offered to you in order to help a newbie out. Be careful with the WSO section. It seems like newbies to internet marketing are the easy targets for SOME of the more experienced internet marketers. Just look at all the titles in the wso section, don't they all sound great?

The steps are pretty basic, I think the hard part is more on how to properly go about taking that step and the next. In other words,

Step one - would be pick your niche, o.k, EASY, but you need to learn to investigate this niche and see if its profitable and how competitive it is. This is crucial if not all the time invested thereafter is lost.

Step two - keyword research, well, if not done properly you don't know what keywords will bring the most traffic or how to seo your on-page and off-page content.

I won't continue, but you get the idea. Just do your research on how to best take each and every step. If you some money to invest, I would utilize the warriors-for-hire section. Use the right person for each step. Again, be careful there too. Make sure you look at their post counts, previous posts, what fellow warriors have to say and so on. Some have several fake profiles to provide fake testimonials.

Anyways, best of luck to you, it's not easy, and when your ready to quit like alot of people do, that's when you give one more shot.

      Good Luck

Well first, Welcome, I hear the WF has help people in time of need. Believe me, right now you are in the perfect place, and in the internet marketing game, you ONLY have 2 things to do. And they are...

    1st - Building Your List

A list is just as it sounds, a group of people that are all center around a subject matter. There are many ways to build your list, however, the method you choose will be dictated by the niche that you want to play in. The less popular niches, like the squirrel shaving niche (joking) isn't that competitive, while there are bigger niches like weight loss or make money.

The goal of the first thing, (building a list) is two part. And I like to break it down in to two parts. And they are...

Build the Machine, Then feed it...

Build a machine is your systems of collecting, converting leads. Feeding the machine is traffic generation.

So you first goal is simple, pick a niche, form a plan on how to build a list in that niche, the start building your machine. And then start feeding your machine with as many traffic methods as you can. Secondly with the first part, you must provide VALUE to your list, with building a strong RELATIONSHIP with your list.

    So in the first step...

    1. Pick a Niche
    2. Form a business plan
    3. Build Your Machine
    4. Feed Your Machine
    5. Build a Strong Relationship with your List.

Ok, once you have completed that, you can now move on to the last step. Which is the Second job you will have in making money over the internet. And that is...

Building Income producing Assets. A.K.A. Passive Income streams.

This one you must be creative and find ways to build streams of passive income. The good news is, you should have a list of people to sell to.

I hope that helps and gets you on track.

    Mark

      Hello,

It's nice to see you here in Warrior Forum... First of all, don't think your 'impulse buy' on this forum is a mistake. I can honestly say this can be one of your wisest purchase in Internet Marketing.

I know you might have heard that statement on every forum you could have probably visited. I mean who in his right sense of mind will say that the forum he currently into is "garbage"...right? Like you, I'm relatively new here, so when you said that the 'loads of information' coming from every direction are REALLY OVERWHELMING...believe me that happens to all of us--no exceptions!

The most important thing you should remember right NOW is that you're not in a race, so don't be rushing yourself to learn all the things Internet Marketing is. You can't do that...NOBODY can! So, just settle down a little & try to familiarize yourself inside this forum. Anyway, that will only take you a day or two to get acclimated here inside so its really well worth it.

As you familiarize yourself here, you will shortly find out that there's so much value here inside...Basic Lessons in Internet Marketing you can learn for FREE-- Lessons you have to pay for outside of Warrior Forum.

After these, if you want to learn a specific field of Internet Marketing Business, I suggest you go the 'Product Reviews & Ratings' Forum where you can find tons of infos regarding which products/services are excellent for Newbies, etc.

There you can get feedbacks from many marketers...& then decide for yourself which one suits you best!

    Hi Absolutemoney,

I think one thing to notice is that everyone has a starting point. I know there is a lot of information out there and for a brand new person like yourself it can almost seem like quite the headache.

My advice to you is to find yourself you can trust and follow and eventually be mentored by them. It will speed up the learning curve dramatically if that is what your looking for. Theres nothing like having a live person on the phone or in person answering your questions.

    Good luck to you
and i know you will eventually be successful!

Great advice on the focus of learning to build a list of people to sell to. The issue there though may be that this person is not able to afford an autoresponder just yet.

The best internet marketing business model (IMHO) is one with a way to capture email addresses and information on the front-end as cheap as possible and sell to an interested group of subscribers on the back-end. This is what experienced marketers are talking about when you hear these terms, just like a squeeze page is simply a page on your site which entices people to opt in for a free gift or something by submitting their email and name to you. There are many ways to build a list, but a brand new marketer may have trouble establishing a niche and collection of methods to do this.

Just my opinion here but a great way to start with affiliate marketing is to produce a review site which converts visitors into buyers, or even a few. I say a few because its rare that your first site will be all that successful, once you have a site which is converting and making money there is no better motivation in the world. Finding a product on Clickbank and positioning yourself in front of buyers which are looking to confirm if a product is worth buying or not was where I started. Not all products out there which have a semi good gravity on Clickbank will be too competitive for you to jump in and setup a review site. By review site I mean you take a product you are interested in and create a site using the product name like:

      "productname"review.com or "productname"scam.net etc etc

Riding the curiosity and skepticism of potential buyers can be a good way to swoop in and gather up some sales but you have got to do your research. Not to mention you have to offer up a real opinion and advice, most people see right through affiliate offers which are nothing but that. The trick is to really put the time and effort into researching and finding out all you can about the product you are going to offer a review of. Buying the product is, of course, the best way but not always necessary.

Join up with Clickbank and search for a slightly less then main stream product which answers a real world problem for people. Use the Google keyword tool and take your time to thoroughly research the sites which are selling the product first and foremost. Find threads on this forum about keyword selection and SEO and just try it. A great thing about internet marketing that people rarely address is that there is very little initial investment. The truth about it being a small investment though is good and bad at the same time. Its good because you can try try again without losing the farm, the bad is many people are only slightly motivated because they are minimally invested. Well....GET MOTIVATED!!

It can be done and the sooner you admit to yourself that there really is no easy button or silver bullet formula, the sooner you are ahead of 90% of other people out there trying to "make it."

Welcome to Warrior Forum, this is a good place to be and no you did not make a mistake joining the War Room.

Yes it can get overwhelming but take things one step at a time and start off with only one project/method/model and stick with it. Start off with a method that you are comfortable with, depending on your existing skills the choices will vary.

Creating a blog and learning how to drive traffic to it through free sources such as social media and article marketing will be a good training project. Learn how to track the traffic sources.

Keyword Research, learn how to do it. It will be essential to everything you do online from domain name, niche selection, marketing efforts, and on & on.

Action, don't sit around and wait for the perfect time to start, the perfect time is now. Don't worry that you don't know all of the in's and out's or your site is not perfect, get something up and tweek it as you learn. Far too many people fail here.

Hello there and welcome! I'm new, too! But, I'm 6 months new! I love all of these replies - they are very helpful, but again, if you are BRAND new, these replies still can seem overwhelming!

DO NOT think that you made a mistake by joining the War Room - you can resort back to them when you are ready to. In fact, I wouldn't go there yet until you have at least one solid system you are working on. Then you can go in there to look for guidance or advice in that area. There is so many different ways to make money online, it is amazing! Yet, it is a good thing coz everyone is different - less competition in the area you choose to run your biz in.

It wasn't long ago that I was asking the same question - "where to begin?" I knew I wanted to make a go at IM, but the forks in the road looked like a centipede! I decided to do the (FREE) Thirty Day Challenge (you can Google that) and it was a wonderful choice for me. In fact, they are starting a new training program on July 1st. It's now being called just The Challenge because they break it up - one week on, one week off instead of 30 days straight. This will help you tremendously as it did me if you wanna give it a shot.

Best of luck in your new venture!

Hello there! I'm new here too but I can share with you about this much.

Starting an online business is an exciting venture and you can actually start your business from a scratch.

First you can write down your goals. It is important to make sure you not only think of your business goals but that you actually put pen to paper and make them real. Then make an idea, a theme of what you want your business to be about. This is probably the most exciting part of the whole process, you get to create an entity that matched your interests and passion.

Second, develop your niche. Develop your niche into some product like an online video or an ebook. Make sure there is an interest in your product or service by doing a little market research.

Third, it's time to decide on a domain name for your business to use. The domain name can be the name of your company .com, or it can be a short phrase that accurately describes your company. Make sure the name is easy to remember and spell or else you're going to have to describe how to spell the name every time you promote it.

Fourth, sign up for an affiliate program. Find one that is related to your niche. You can get paid pretty well to sell something related to what you have and it can become some good residual income if you do it right.

Fifth, start using pay-per-click ads. This is a great way to get more traffic to your website which will mean more sales for you.

    Good luck.

    Paul

      Hi -
I would first like to say that if you are serious about learning how to make money online, there is no better place to be than The War Room. As time goes by, you will come to realize what a gold mine this is.

If you know how to set up a free Wordpress blog, I would highly recommend Andrew's ClickBank Profit Storm. It is so step by step that you could just take it at your own pace. If you don't know how to set up Wordpress, it is easy to find tutorials all over the place that show how easy it is. Andrew's course is almost totally video. He has it broken into four sections, and each section has an additional video called "Look over my shoulder" where he actually does what you need to do and you see everything right in front of you. This is a perfect place to start if you want to set up websites for affiliate marketing.

If you are interested in selling products by building a list, it sounds like Silver Bullet Affiliate might be a good place to start. I've just been reading about the new 2010 version and a huge part of the process is done by Soren, John and Cindy of Clickbank Pirate. If you were to chose the option where you let them host it and send messages for you, etc., you will be able to see how the process works. The people on the list will "belong" to you as long as you remain in the program. It's a monthly fee type deal. OR you can set up your own hosting and autoresponder and the list will be yours forever, whether you continue with Silver Bullet or not. At least that's my understanding.

      Hope that helps.

You are welcome to this great forum. The good place to start is considering affiliate marketing. So look for products or programs to promote.

Then look for a domain name and a host company. Have your website setup to promote your affiliate products. Then you are up and running. The information you need is right here in this forum. But you will need to make a good decision not out of impulse. Don't jump for whatever comes.

    @ AbsolutMoney

Problem with this thread is that almost every Warrior out there will tell you about what works for them or what people should do. I think the first thing you need to do is ask yourself what prompted you to join this forum?

*Was it to make money online in general with no direction intended?
*Was it to learn how to offer a skillset to other people online and profit from it (example: writing)?
*Is it to improve your own website with internet marketing techniques?
*Is it to learn about Internet Marketing in general and eventually become an online marketer?

Once you have established what it was that made you join the forum, then I would suggest you start with that.

I think almost everyone wants to make money in some form, but there are different areas that a person can go into. Some information that is being circulated on the internet and on the forums is a lot of rehashed stuff that you can easily find free with a bit of dedication and using Google.

Another thing of interest... what threads did you read that you found interesting and what problems did you encounter which made you feel like you didn't know anything?

If you start by asking the right questions, then people can help. That is what this forum is there for.

Thanks for all the replies and the terrific advice!

At the moment I am leaning towards affiliate marketing through Amazon.com. By doing this, I will learn how to:

      * pick a niche
      * do some market research
      * learn about keywords
      * purchase a domain and build a website ( never done this ) although I've read wordpress is the way to go
      * make a review site for my niche
      * write articles on a regular basis in order to increase traffic to site and make it more relevant on google?
      *hopefully make money

Does this sound like a good plan for a beginner? I know that I probably won't make huge bucks this way, but it seems that I will be learning and getting experience that I will be able to expand to other methods later on if I so choose.

      What do you all think?
