My first experiment....I need help please :)

Okay I finally decided to do a little experiment/case studies of my own. Im giving myself 7 days to complete this project. It consists of promoting either a website, blog, or lens; starting with 25 articles posted on 10 of the top directories.

I found the niche I want to go after but I just dont know which route to take to fulfill the process. Im wondering if I should build a website from scratch and implement adsense, videos and affiliate links. Or should I made a squidoo lens and write a review on the top websites and get a commission from it.

I know im asking for alot but I will appreciate any information I could get. Please keep in mind that im a newbie and Im trying the hardest I can. So some things I may say might not make too much sense or sound like im a little slow :p

I would appreciate it, thanks.

i don't think squidoo is a bad idea. You can always make a "proper" site later and then put the site-link into the lens to inc conversions. My $0.02

designing a website is a pain. Get a domain, install wordpress or drupal and start adding content.

Use adsense, make sure to use google analytics to see how effective your efforts are.

Drupal = Nice, one of my main sites is running this. But i wouldnt tell a newbie "go install drupal"...it can be overwhelming!

        Squidoo is a good option,

also, a blog would be good if you are going to be constantly adding content.

PS: Don't you just love that font?

          Tashyla:

Personally, I'd start with Squidoo Lenses - then, Hub Pages. Both are free.

Then, I'd set up a Blog - ideally with WordPress.org (using Hostgater for hosting).

Another option for a Blog might be SquareSpace.com, as they have paint-by-numbers ease of building, and the cost is low..

Only then, would I start building a Website - and two of the best Site Builders are SBI (SiteBuildIt.com) and XSP (XSitePro.com). Of course, there are free Site Builders, but they have some real disadvantages.

Then, with Social Media Marketing + Internet Marketing, you can advertise and promote like crazy - for free.

Hope this helps - and good luck with your mission! :-)

          Sincerely / Peter A.

If you have the ability, I'd say set your own site up.
Use your articles, social bookmarking, squidoo, etc all to point back to your site. If you use a blog or cms software for your site, you can submit your rss feed to a lot of sites as well.

Squidoo would probably allow you to get up and running quicker than building from scratch. And with your time frame, speed is a critical factor.

My suggestion: Run with the squidoo option and document the journey.

Then do it again but start by building a site from scratch.

If either or both options work out well, you'll have an excellent case study, some revenues coming in, AND a great topic for a new ebook.

If you ask me, I actually do both!

But if you want to choose only one of the two options, I would recommend building a plain html website (no jazz, no graphics), and have your affiliate ad at the top and bottom, and content in the middle. That is the way I started.

Squidoo is of course not a bad idea either, and like someone else said you could always buy a domain later and redirect it to squidoo, or you can mention about your website in your Squidoo lens later.

But the reason why I suggest building a site is because you are more in control regarding the site layout; you can tweak your website and ad depending on your conversions; with Squidoo, you are limited to some extent, plus there are third party ads too

You don't sound so much like a newbie, I would also be interested in the answer to this in regards to a lens on squidoo. In my opinion, build a website first to get you a landing page for your prospects and then start with blogging.
