Please use video controls on your marketing vids.

I don't know the testing data on this but I am so tired of videos with no controls on them.

I often go between computers while watching videos but when the content provider does not put the controls I have no idea where I am on the video. Also I am getting a lot of errors now that people are using scripts to popup the BUY NOW button that lock two computers, making me start from the beginning because of the lack of controls.

The gurus (kern, walker, pagan) are still using controls and kudos to them! Why can't everyone else? Do you think that just because I cant control the video I am magically going to watch it to the end?

It is almost as irritating as the exit popup scripts.

Someone please come up with a better solution!

I completely agree, and not just for the annoying side of switching between computers which I imagine is even more frustrating. But, just the mere idea of it. How is it beneficial to your conversion rate? Can anyone answer that?

When I produce videos on my sites, I do want people to watch them of course, I also want people to buy my product but whether they do or not is completely up to them and I feel the less pushy and sneaky I am about it the better chance I have. There is a basic saying that I feel many marketers need to get back to basics and ponder:

"Do unto others, as you would have them do unto you"

Try being up front and honest with your customers, gather data on that and compare to the "sneaky" data. I have had great success by structuring my campaigns to closely resemble what I would want to see in an offer, the purpose of the product, the benefits, the price all up front and easy to find. The only thing it has gotten me is thanks and sales.

I agree with the OP, why be a nag and strip your customer of the controls on a video, makes no sense.

As far as the popup offers though, I can attest that these do work at times. Just like above, I try to structure it like I would want to see it though, just ONE! After the 2nd or 3rd popup I am annoyed, I'll be honest. It has even gotten to the point where I feel people intentionally try to leave offers just to see if there is a discounted popup coming, its madness! Ludicrous I say!

      Hi Rentitnow,

Why can't everyone else? Do you think that just because I cant control the video I am magically going to watch it to the end?
I've answered this before so I might as well do so again. It's always fun because certain people get irate about my answer.

In my opinion - it's a filtering system. If you are the type to watch it to the end, or the content grabs you that much - then you are the sort of prospect they want in their funnel.

If you aren't, or you don't, then you are not.

Who wants refunds, unhappy buyers, people with buyer's remorse - or more generally, people who aren't completely sold on the concept - in their funnel?

      .........

My point - I'm not actually interested in making anyone irate (I was joking). But I have noticed with myself and with others that as we go through our journey, the kind of products we purchase and the amount of time we spend reading salesletters/watching videos in order to consider a purchase changes - and generally becomes less. We know what we want/need and we just go out and get it.

And it just so happens that the type of products I/we are more likely to buy are the ones that need less marketing - they just tell you what's 'in the tin'. As time passes I find myself much less interested/susceptible to hype, scarcity, the latest offer coming down the pipe etc. You know, all of that stuff that works, but normally only up to a certain point.

Conclusion - just be pleased that you are progressing and that vendors are wasting less of your time by alerting you to products that might not be suitable for someone of your status. Know what I mean?
