Here within this page is the dumbest question of the week

BTW, Ernie, thank you for your tireless help in helping me get my new website off the ground. For those who don't know, he is a forum member here, and offered his help after my 1st post on this forum.

I'm working in Wordpress. I'm following the instructional vids that are floating around. I'm trying to add a tab. In Wordpress, there is an 'add new page' tab.

Is a new page the same as a tab? Will the tab be on the top of the page or will it be on the left side of the front page? Or is there an option for either that I just don't see?

If you add a new page, it will show on the top as a tab unless you check the private box or install a plugin that can make it so you can't see it.

So add a new page and publish it. Then it should show up on the tab bar on the top of your page.

This is largely going to depend on how your particular theme's navigation is set up. What you can do is add a page and call it something obvious like NEW PAGE and see where it shows up. Then, you'll know!

Certain themes are different but in general yeah it should appear across the top of the page. Here's the link to organizing pages from wordpress but you might have already seen this:

    Pages WordPress Codex

There's also a plugin you can use to hide pages from showing up if you want to as scrofford said.

    Here's one that I use:

WordPress › Exclude Pages WordPress Plugins

Yes, it all depends on the theme. Some will be along the top in menus if there is more than one in that group, most seem to be either on the left or right in a list, either above or below the post menu.

    Hope that clears it up.

Your theme has the options to display "tabs" for your created pages. You need to select the layout for where they will appear and then check the box for which ones you want to appear.
